Forums - Politics Discussion - Yet another call for gun control - Daily Show

As a Canadian, I love gun Control, but John Oliver should talk to smarter people.

There have been less gun related homicides and suicides since the gun ban, but what does that tell us? People can still kill themselves without guns you know? Probably in more painful, and bloody ways.

Dramatically ruduced levels of Gun Violence, but what about overall violence?

---

LOL, some of those people are really dumb, the crack example was hilarious

----

However I do agree that Gun control works, Homicide rates in Australia have dropped 30% since the gun regulations. This wouldn't work too well in USA since it's easier to smuggle guns into the country, but Americans can learn a lot from Former/Current British Colonies

The US is dangerous and uncivilized enough that people are in constant fear and need guns to defend themselves. This is probably the main thing that makes Europe ultimately a MUCH better location to live. You can go around just about everywhere in Europe without guns and be perfectly safe.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Our government in the US sucks, Daily Show not breaking any ground here. We won't see any logical change in laws and regulations because the politicians are in the pockets of people they care more about than their own citizens.

Like virtually every other issue in this country, it's not as if the people don't want a change. The problem is our government will only change it if it suits their agenda and won't ruin their chances of re-election.

Yeah, the world would be so much better if only governments and criminals had guns. Law abiding citizens should not have access to guns.

+1 Only government, police and criminals can carry guns under gun control laws. Citizens can not access guns to defend themselves and their property.

Thank you! Glad to see I'm not alone on this one.

People are delusional if they think a complete ban on guns will significantly reduce crime and make people safer.

i love seeing europeans talk about how unsafe it is to live in the us. Theres more violence in europe.

the only ppl we fear in america is the government.. and we are afraid of becoming like europe.

In the government as a whole or just the ninja police? :P

I've never understood the obsessions with guns, and protecting your propierty, and all that. But ok, different country/society, I won't judge that. However I wonder, are people not worried about the multiple cases of incidents involving guns? I mean, heck just yesterday somebody committed suicide after shooting the ceiling of Houston airport.

Funny that, as you all came from Europeans and our actions. But I would be afraid of your government too, when they only listen to the people with the money despite the fact that every part of society votes. No matter the consequences

I second this. I'm no fan of John Howard, but what he did after the Port Arthur massacre was absolutely what needed to be done, it's one of the best things any PM has done in the last few decades. I love living in a country where I don't have to worry about getting shot whenever I leave my house.

Me too. It's called United States of America. The last thing on my mind is getting shot. You may be watching the news a little too hard. It is really not as bad as they picture it. Granted, I agree on the universal background check stuff.

As far as ban of assault rifles, i am conflicted. On the one hand, a regular, law abiding citizen does not need anything more than a handgun or maybe even a shotgun or the likes for protection of his family and property. On the other hand, Assault rifles cause so little deaths in comparison to handgun, I think i heard it was less than 1% of all gun related incidents. If that is the case, then why even bother? It's obvious that its the people behind the guns.

This. I agree on background checks and things like that. However I am against ammo restrictions. If people wanna own an assault rifle thats their perogotive. Especially when these assault weapons are not the problem.

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. Americans fled Europe for a reason. Most often because they were oppressed by the despotist policies of European states.

I suppose the Australians left for the same reason and let they are no different to us now, although many were criminals... Although, i don't think the first Americans were any better than us after how they treated the natives or the Africans they continued to bring over for the slave trade (i'm glad the civil war settled that one at least). Not like the English or French were any better though. But anyway, America once a progressive modern state, not so much any more.
