Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo not holding traditional E3 press conference this year?

Nintendo has plenty of software to show.

Super Mario 3D
Mario Kart U
Bayonetta 2
Xenoblade 2
Super Smash Bros. U

Alone are better than the last 2-3 Nintendo press events. We've seen basically nothing on any of these games outside of X.

There's also the Retro Studios game which we haven't seen anything on.

And even games that are supposed to be out in a few months ... haven't seen anything new on The Wonderful 101 in ages for example.

That's why I find this a little bizarre ... Nintendo easily could have their best E3 press event this year by a mile, they definitely have stock piled the content and kept it secret.

Hmm, it feels like a two-sides of the coin. And try to weigh in the pros and the cons for either side...

On one side, go big blockbuster, traditional way and sway gamers from the other company, but at the cost of mix messages/signals/lost in noise that could bring would-be players...
And on the other side, do a different aproach and make smaller devisions each set for their own core purpose, but risking alienating potential gamers that adores the accostumed big show...

I hope this pays off for Nintendo and do another Wii-take scenario. O.o

It does seem a very wii-like move, actually. Whatever they have will indeed be overshadowed by Sony and Microsoft (as new hardware always takes precedence in terms of E3 coverage), so they find another way to reach their goal.

Great, I wonder if Microsoft will eventually do the same and move their conferences to MTV.

So a few Nintendo Directs and show floor stuff. Interesting and hopefully quality info. Better come out with ALL rest of year stuff with damn dates too.

Hear, hear. Scaling down is no excuse to slack off.

Nintendo Directs are not helping....at all. They need to go big with the press conferences.

On a completely personal level, I love watching E3s with friends on livestream and chatting on irc. Making fun of the conference is half the fun of the damn thing, the antics the companies pull every year are something I look forward to as well as the banter surrounding them. So I'm bummed we will have one less live conference to enjoy. I hope the other two don't go down this road. It's simply not as fun.

I mean really, there's plenty of software to have made this Nintendo's best E3 that I can remember.

Mario 3D - Nothing shown
Mario Kart U - Nothing shown
Super Smash Bros U - Nothing shown
Zelda: Wind Waker Reborn - 3 still screenshots shown
X - Short clip shown
Bayonetta 2 - No real in-game footage shown other than like a 2 second snipet
Retro's Game - Nothing shown, nothing detailed as of yet, period.
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem - No in-game footage shown as of yet

I mean, we've seen *nothing* basically on any of these games except X.

That's kind of the puzzling thing is the one year Nintendo has stockpiled a ton of stuff to show, they opt to not have the big stage, whereas in year's past they've had the big stage and basically wasted it by having 20 minutes of Wii Music or Batman: Arkham City port-erific demos.

Being the only of the big3 not making a conference will only give arguments to those that say that Nintendo are no longer in the game and that the industry is becoming more and more a big2 industry,

They seem to go the Koonami approach. But they ain't Koonami, they are freaking Nintendo! Did they lose all pride to the extent that they won't even try anymore to look as a powerhouse in this industry?

They are helping. The January ND for Wii U showing Monolith Soft's X did a great job of generating much needed excitement. This past 3DS one did the same for that system with games like Yoshi's Island, Link to the Past 2, and Bravely Default.
