I approve. Hopefully this goes nationwide in a few years.

That's quite sad and scary.
OT: It would be great if cigarettes were banned all together. Too bad some people like destroying their bodies. You can't take that "freedom" away from them, I suppose.

Does it matter how victory is achieved?

As a non-smoker I have no problem with this. As a non-resident of New York I have even less of a problem with this.

Well, corporate tobacco cigarettes are more worse then smoking heroine (or however you spell that) in everyway.
So this is only logical to eventually someday make it more illegal then it is to smoke heroine in each & every country someday.
It's true that a lot of smokers start off when they are like 11 to 13 years old, but now of days there are a lot less kids smoking because of Video Games and other stuff, plus the ones that do smoke now of days seem to only touch weed, but never tobacco nor drink alcohol nor do anything else.

@Kaizar Alcohol comes later and with having someone who can supply it. It is much harder to get your hands on. What do you think about cigars? |
By cigars, do you mean like just smoking Tobacco by itself wrap in a paper. Even those will still cause at least one form of cancer as well as many other health hazards. But I think Cuban Cigars are most likely much safer the Corporate Tobacco Cigarettes. But as long as it's Tobacco being smoke, well it just seems like something that shouldn't be legal in today's Japan & Israel & Sudai Arabia & Canada & so fort for any legal purchase.......well at least when it comes to Corporate Tobacco Cigarettes.
The worse thing about this kind of stuff is that second smoke of cigarettes have been recorded killing a lot of Americans every year since like the 1950's, but the information has only been made public during the past some years.
And Heart Disease is the #1 killer and/or disease in America, but a surprising number of people in the world still smoke cigarettes, including that 1 Asian baby in a foriegn country LOL.
Actually, It arguably makes sense if you support a cigarette age band at 18. That is... if you think the 18 year old band and 21 year old ban were right a decade ago.
Generally, Psychology, Sociology etc have observed and codified a "Lengthening" of childhood into a new "Youth" stage that incorporates 20-25. People just aren't as maturing as fast as they used to and not thinking about the future right away.
In a lot of ways... 21 is the new 18 and 25 is the new 21.
Of course this would ALSO suggest that plenty of other things, like registering for the draft and voting should be pushed back as well if so inclined.
(Though I would argue that ~16 is really good enough for most of this stuff.)

Actually the new generation has a life spam of around 100 years old, which includes better memory and more higher intellect and more better metabolism and more natural talent in sports & music & science & math & etc.
Our generations might have a life spam of up to around 80 years.
Just having a much more better memory naturally will do a lot of good in their life.
Of course we need to increase the S.S.I. age requirement for their Generation and newer to start at least age 62, which Obama had try to do during the beginning of his presidency with that logic but was turn down by Senate and/or Congress.
Funny how you can't drink until you're 21, now possibly can't smoke until you're 21. But you're totally free to enlist in the armed forces and take a bullet at 18. PRIORITIES!!!

NEW YORK | (Reuters) - New York City took the first step on Monday in outlawing sales of cigarettes to anyone under age 21, in an effort to reduce smoking among the age group in which most smokers take up the habit. I think this smoking thing is getting a little out of control. Cannot smoke in building or near buildings anymore, once you turn 18 they want you to wait even longer to start being an adult and make right or wrong choices. Taxes on Cigarettes are through the roof! In Chicago I think they want to add a dollar tax to each pack, while a pack is already 8 bucks. Just making poor people poorer. The one thing that gave some of the poor a stress reliever from their every day horrible life is making them even poorer. I understand not smoking in other Americans face, but lets not get extreme here. As for this proposed law, it will just replace Marijuana fines and arrests. Kids are going to do it one way or another. Drinking should be regulated, but regulating cigarettes is kind of stupid. Just like the large soda law there. I will just go buy two sodas just to spite the asshole law makers. Sadly that is what they want the poor to do. Just means more tax revenue, because the state does not really care about the people.

Well your drinking age is 21 is it not? Why not make your smoking age the same?
I kinda agree with this article, a lot of people start smoking young, and it just becomes part of their lifestyle. Make people wait until they are older, and it's less likely that they'll start smoking.
This isn't extreme, smoking is a serious health risk, and not just to the smoker, second hand smoke is actually more dangerous then first hand.
----
Also, I LOVE THE LARGE SODA LAW! McDonalds, 7-11, and other big corporations make the bulk of their profit off fountain drinks, so they offer huge discounts on ridiculous sizes, to get you to buy more. Banning large drinks sounds awesome!
I mean, I heard that the USA Big Gulp is 50% bigger then the average Human Stomach.....that's kinda excessive, and in a country with such a high amount of diabeties issues, I think this is a smart law.
