While other states are legalizing Marijuana, New york is setting true American Freedom back and trying to ban 18-20 year olds from buying cigarettes

(Reuters) - New York City took the first step on Monday in outlawing sales of cigarettes to anyone under age 21, in an effort to reduce smoking among the age group in which most smokers take up the habit.

I think this smoking thing is getting a little out of control. Cannot smoke in building or near buildings anymore, once you turn 18 they want you to wait even longer to start being an adult and make right or wrong choices. Taxes on Cigarettes are through the roof! In Chicago I think they want to add a dollar tax to each pack, while a pack is already 8 bucks. Just making poor people poorer. The one thing that gave some of the poor a stress reliever from their every day horrible life is making them even poorer.

I understand not smoking in other Americans face, but lets not get extreme here. As for this proposed law, it will just replace Marijuana fines and arrests. Kids are going to do it one way or another. Drinking should be regulated, but regulating cigarettes is kind of stupid. Just like the large soda law there. I will just go buy two sodas just to spite the asshole law makers. Sadly that is what they want the poor to do. Just means more tax revenue, because the state does not really care about the people.

 

Well your drinking age is 21 is it not? Why not make your smoking age the same?

I kinda agree with this article, a lot of people start smoking young, and it just becomes part of their lifestyle. Make people wait until they are older, and it's less likely that they'll start smoking.

This isn't extreme, smoking is a serious health risk, and not just to the smoker, second hand smoke is actually more dangerous then first hand.

Also, I LOVE THE LARGE SODA LAW! McDonalds, 7-11, and other big corporations make the bulk of their profit off fountain drinks, so they  offer huge discounts on ridiculous sizes, to get you to buy more. Banning large drinks sounds awesome!

I mean, I heard that the USA Big Gulp is 50% bigger then the average Human Stomach.....that's kinda excessive, and in a country with such a high amount of diabeties issues, I think this is a smart law.
