Forums - Gaming Discussion - How will the Wii U fit games on the PS4, if the PS4 will have 7GB RAM available?

it cant. not only will the ps4 have much more ram. but its also much more faster

the Wii U will just have lower graphics, less details, possibly less rendering and stuff like that, but it will still have good graphics and gameplay regardless. Hopefully, less ram won't put developers off making games for Wii U as for most games it probably won't make much difference, especially right now

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 & 3, Black Ops, and World at War ran on the Wii despite the Wii having 88MB of RAM to the PS3/360's 512MB.

i don't think call of duty was a good example modern warfare 3 on wii got poor reviews

We are not talking about quality of games but their portability to other systems with less power/resources.

oh in that case call of duty is still a bad example

No, it's a perfect example on how an engine looks like on weaker hardware. It was still the same game though.

Not a good example.  IW engine was used for the first time in 2005, in the early days of this current generation.

It was designed to run on XBOX/PS2/Wii and PS3/360/PC, That's Why Wii is receives COD games.

Have to agree. IW engine is essentially a modified version of id Tech 3 (used in Quake III Arena).

It's old hat.

As far as i know, the 7GB free for games is just a rumor.
But even if it`s true doesn`t mean everyone will use it right away or anytime soon. It would take a lot more time to take advantage of all that.

Meanwhile...

As long as PS3 and Xbox 360 keep getting ports, there`s no reason Wii U can`t a port. Not to forget that Nintendo was giving Gameware for free and that includes CryEngine 3.0.

Initially while companies are working on PS3/Xbox and PS4/Xbox720 versions I think it will be less of a problem, but as the PS3/Xbox games get less and less, I feel the Wii-U will then get less (i.e it will get games where there is an equivalent last gen game being made).

Of course, there is one big issue here, and that is the cost of maintaining so many different versions of the same game, So lets think for a moment that companies will be making a multi gen game, they would need engines/people to support:

PS4, Xbox720, Ps3, Xbox360, PC and Wii-u... this is starting to get a bit ridiculous, and they may end up missing the wii-u out... if any initial games sell badly... or if the console doesn't look like its going to get the gamers that will buy those types of games. We've already seen this with certain engines (Unreal) and certain games not coming out on the Wii-u already...

This was always going to be the problem with the wii-u and the low end specs they decided to launch with... Nintendo really imho need to start spending the cash on 2nd party games etc... but that takes time, and by the time it actually happens will it be too late. Going to be an interesting year or two.

i don't think the Wii U will fit games on the PS4

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

It can't. It's stuffed unfortunately.

Well, curl-6 says it will be possible, because a number of Call of Duty titles made it over.

omg, baka, he meant that they still ported games.....

It prob will be able to play atleast some of the titles, but just really downgraded in some aspects. Open world games though depending on which ones might just skip the wii u entirely. An example of this is the witcher 3 which is getting released on pc,ps4, and other highend hardware in 2014.

It might be doable, but the quality of the port will suffer causing it to be an "inferior" port. Nintendo fans don't like inferior ports. The game sells badly then developers decide to drop the Wii U all together. At least that's what I think happened with the Wii.

So the PS3 and 360 wil also have no problem play next gen titles at all either, right?  So, then what is the extra RAM on the PS4 needed for if the Wii U is more than capable of doing everything you had mentioned?

However, assuming this review is valid, apparently MW3 didn't exactly hit the same levels that the 360 version did:

Theoretically they should not have a problem. You will have to downgrade the visuals even more than with the WiiU version since PS360 lack effects/shaders etc WiiU has and PS4 will have  but other than that (obviously depending on the game)  this should not be much of an issue.

When you reduce the resolution of the game itself and the resolution of every texture available, how far you can see before fog shows up etc.  the amount of RAM being used will also be drastically smaller. Tweak a bit here and there and you are good to go. Most engines are scalable today so no problem.

There is another problem I see which is:
We wont see games really using the 7gb of ram anytime soon. The 7gb of ram will be used as a free ticket for the "I feel lazy and therefore I will throw tons of inefficient code into the game becaue there is enough ram there!"

And if this happens then WiiU's will have a problem. I dont see how devs that say  "this code looks like a mess but gets the job done" suddenly cleanup the code just for 1 single console Wont happen!

P.S. I had to read the topic like 4 or 5 times to understand it lol. I was always thinking about the Wii Fit successor   called Wii Fit U  xD
