Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Fiscal Earnings - 70 Million Profit Year-End, Q4 - Loss (70 Million)

This is the worst Q4 for Nintendo handhelds since they started reporting quarterly back in 2003.  It is also the worst Q4 for consoles since 2006 before the Wii launched.  To be fair, that quarter was significantly worse (230k).

Not surprising at all when you look at 3DS holiday line-up for 2012. They had nothing.

The DS collapse is really quite incredible.  From 27.11 million/yr to discontinued in the span of four years.  I assume the fact that there is no forecast for the DS means they have ceased manufacturing.  I wonder how Nintendo and Sony have handled developing markets differently that allowed the PS2 to continue selling for years, while the DS basically died outside the US a year ago.

The 3DS has pretty much overtaken the DS. The small difference in price between the systems plus BC with DS games means very few will choose the DS over the 3DS. Nintendo isn't present in most of the developing markets and even if they were it'd probably benefit the 3DS more anyway.

So, people are buying 3DSs but they're not buying games for it?

A $40 a pop, I think it's fair to say people are a bit more judicious about ponying up for handheld games.

Heck, I have a 3DS since March 2012 and got 2 games for it. $40 is expensive yo.

So they failed too meet revised forecasts from revised forecasts for both consoles? Nintendo can thank the central Bank of Japan.

Also, expecting 3DS to rise 30% when it's essentially flat compared to its first year on the market is bold imho.

Pssst...Pokemon. (+a bunch of other stuff but)....seriously.

Expecting it not to rise would be idiotic.

is the 9m wiiu on top of the 3.45m > 12.45m sold at the end of next fiscal year.
or is it with the 3.45m > 5.55m sold until the next fiscal year ?

if its the first then I hope nintendo will have a solid lineup for the holidays or it might not work ...
