I knew that about Phantasy Star.

You know...... I might just buy the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. It's about $20 I recall, and it has a bunch of the Genesis games I miss out on. It has all 4 Phantasy Star games, Beyond Oasis, the 3 Genesis Shining Force games, and all the Sonics (I have all the Sonics, but it's a nice bonus).

I'm second guessing buying all the original games. At least, I think I'll hold it off until I beat a bunch of other games off my to get list. Also getting the collection lets me play each series first, and get tophy's for it (I'll probably buy it on PS3) at the price of one of the original games.

Maybe if I hold off long enough, Sega will also make a Sonic's Ultimate Saturn/CD Collection. lol.

Yeah. That's a great idea. The Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection is a good deal.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a Saturn Collection. The Saturn is so difficult to emulate that Sega has yet to bother putting the effort into it. Most of the Saturn games that have been re-released have been ports of their PC versions.

Sega CD should be easy to emulate, and aren't most of Saturns games available on PC as well?

Get the Sonic Genesis Collection and play all RPGs in it, I think it has the whole Phantasy Star series.

And besides RPGs, I would really recommed Shenmue 1 and 2, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2, Streets of Rage 1 and 2, Contra Hard Corps (the best Contra of the 16 bit era) CastleVania Bloodlines (the best Castlevania of the 16-bit era), Shinobi 1 and 3 and Shinobi Legions (Saturn game), Gunstar Heroes (when you beat that game in expert mode you can consider yourself bad ass), Splatterhouse 2 and 3.  Genesis also had some of the best spaceship shooters The Thunderforce series, especially 3 and 4.  Oh, and if you can get Snatcher for Sega CD (although it was remade for PSone and Saturn, but I don't know if those versions were ever translated).

Of the games you mentioned, I either own them, or down like them Except Panzer Dragoon Zwei

Saturn Bomberman is the definitive bomberman so buy it.

Power Stone on Dreamcast.

Try Nights into Dreams, I'm suprised nobody has mentioned it yet, if you like Sonic and you like very unusual games try Nights - can be quite expensive on ebay so get the XBL/PS3 version (only 400 points on XBL).

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

Sega CD would be easy, but most Saturn games were NOT on PC. Some of the big ones were. The first Panzer Dragoon was, but none of the others. Sega Rally Championship is on PC, but not Nights into Dreams. Sonic R was on PC, but not Burning Rangers. Of all the great Saturn games only a handfull were ported to PC.

Well, there's always hope. Plus I think you told me that Sega lost the original data for Panzer Dragoon Saga? So we'd be playing a copy of a disk LOL. I think it's possible, Nights into Dreams is available on XBL/PS3, and Sonic R was part of the Sonic Gems collection on Gamecube and PS2.

Anyway for now, I'll get the genesis collection. Then I have A LOT of games to catch up on, and a lot of time to look for Saturn/CD/PS1/SNES/PS2 games (most of the games I don't have, but want are on these consoles) which I still want.

Panzer Dragoon Saga IMO the best RPG of the 32bit era.

I still play my Dreamcast fairly often - it gets as much play as my GC and PS2. I was never a "Sega fan' in the sense that I was a fanboy. I've always been a Sony enthusiast, but Nintendo and Sega were my supporting pillars and provided me with great games. Since Sega stopped producing hardware I just stuck with Sony and Nintendo.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I agree. I replayed it recently and it still holds up. If it was for Mass Effect I'd say it's the best RPG of all time thanks to it's action combat system and unique beautiful world to explore.

Yep, I'm a big fan of Mass Effect to, and I was going to quote tony saying that he's not the only person I've heard state this.

For me Chrono Trigger still takes the cake for BEST RPG. I really haven't played many 32-bit era RPG's to judge what my favorite32 bit RPG is, but ATM Golden Sun is leading by far. Not crazy for FFVII, but I do like IX.

I used to be hardcore Sega fan as a kid, still own my ol trusty Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. But turned to Xbox after (it had JSRF and Panzer Dragoon, and Sega GT). I play tons of halo nowadays... and the Yakuza series (which is leagues better than Shenmue, not even opinion, its fact)

Also recommended Old Skool SEGA:
Dynamite Headdy - Genesis
Rocket Knight Adventures - Genesis
Beyond Oasis - Genesis
Contra: Hard Corps - Genesis
ShadowRun - Genesis
Albert Odyssey - Saturn
Shining Force III - Saturn
Dragon Force - Saturn
Fighters Megamix - Saturn
Burning Rangers - Saturn
Sega Rally - Saturn

That is a good list my friend.

While I am a huge Phantasy Star Phan. I can not recommend Phantasy star online, it feels like a big departure from the series. But if if PSO is your thing, then give PSO episode 3 a try. Addictive little card battle game.

Now I play mostly PS3. As for games, I'm a sucker for a good story.Just finished "Spec Ops the line".

Sega fan playing Skyrim on 360 here.
