Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U gets a few games, starts selling

That's nice, but i'm more in the camp that the price promotion in the US (best buy and target) and Europe (more specific UK which was well documented) and the holiday buying in Japan was the cause of the console rise, not 2nd and 3rd rate tier games.

Don't know about the U.S, but in the UK the price cut didn't improved the sales of the Wii U. The boost was because of the games.

wow... where do you get "didn't improve sales" from "didn't improve sales enough"

under 60k isnt anemic. thats still terrible as well as you are over looking the price cuts and the following sales drop

That explains why people are celebrating Vita selling even less than that in a week after price cuts despite being on the market for well over a year.

....Yes, what's the difference? According to VGC the Wii U saw a boost of 118%. The 2 weeks before the 23rd the Wii U sold 1.5k, the price cut didn't helped at all.

1 this thread isnt about vita

2 the vita sold 82k which is more than 60k

3 vitas price drop was in the smallest market

4 the vitas sales are still terrible

Don't know why people keep attributing the HW increase to price drops as we've had those long before MH3 and Lego City and they didn't do squat. And we've already seen with the Vita that price drops do very little if demand isn't already there (and it really isn't in these two cases).

lol even retailers said the WiiU price reduction didn't improve sales

without games a pricecut will not do much

"...enough" - which makes sense, since selling 3k in the UK with drastic price cutting isn't enough by any means.

The price cut was around before the 23rd. On the 16th the Wii U sold 1.5k units with the price cut (and no games), it didn't helped at all. The boost was because of the games, although the price cut might have helped a little.

It definitely looked like it was helping. At least it was sold out the first two days I tried to get it at HMV. To be fair it was the biggest price cut so far.

Sorry about that. I guess I couldn't find it amongst all the "A game isn't coming to Wii U" threads.

@Train wreck

I had thought the retailer discounts were in previous weeks, but it looks like you have a point. The week of the 23rd is around when retailers in the UK slashed prices and the Best Buy sale landed just before the end of the week. Can't find mention of a Target sale, though.
