Forums - Gaming Discussion - Software Will Not Boost Wii U Hardware Sales

The lack of these big-name 3rd party titles is what killed the Wii.(Of course Nintendo had some part in this as well)

Even though Wii U is getting some big games such as AC and Watch Dogs, its still missing some major franchises. The ones it did get didn't sell very well at launch so I think the future of 3rd party support for Wii U won't be much different than that of the Wii.

Wii was the best selling console till 2010 without any of these big-name 3rd party titles. What killed it was the fact that after 2010, Nintendo stopped supporting it.

First party games will boost wii u hardware sane but it won't be enougth to save wii u from failling

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Are you seriously asking what kind of Nintendo software can push hardware sales?

You must be new to the industry. Maybe you've never heard of the Wii, a console that outsold its competitors on the strength of Nintendo's software alone. Nintendo near-single-handedly carried the Wii to 100 million sales. Suddenly their games are going to be unable to sell any significant number of Wii Us?

lol thread is lol worthy

How did those nintendo games push the gamecube? You know, the previous nintendo console.

You're just asking for trouble here, for no real reason. That's flaming.

So I won't say anything other than you're wrong. Software will boost Wii U sales.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The Wii never got big third party support but it sold like crazy when games like Wii Fit, Sports Resort and Mario Kart came out. We can all agree that third parties won't support WiiU just like they do with any other Nintendo console but i'm sure WiiU will be a succes, if the PS3 became (after so many years) succesfull then so will WiiU.

Hmmm...I have a Wii U and have zero buyers remorse.  I think you're assuming too much here.  We've been playing Lego City Undercover and NFSMW U as of late and having a blast.

Stop hating and start playing.

All of those are either 3rd party games(which you don't have to buy another console to play), or games that aren't system sellers. The wiiU will be just fine when they launch "true" system selling games.

Something...Something...Games...Something

why wouldn't good software enhance the sales? every system profites from software.

The Gamecube and Xbox were very close in total hardware sales.  The PS2 did better in part because people were buying it as a cheap DVD player....Much like a lot of people have done with the PS3 for Blu Ray...hence why a lot of 1st party PS3 games haven't done so well.  The only thing that the PS4 is bringing to the table is a small bump in graphics.

The Wii U needs some of it's heavy hitters to come out and a $50 price reduction before it's going to move many units.

Also, while the Gamecube didn't set the world on fire, it's still the favorite system off all time by many.

Nintendo is sitting on a huge pile of cash right now....(they didn't need to sell their offices to finance a system launch).  They'll be fine this gen even if they don't sell a ton of units.  Sony on the other hand bet the farm.  If the PS4 way under performs, Sony's in deep trouble.

As I've said before, these aren't the same games as they were 12 years ago. Hell, this isn't the same industry as it was 12 years ago.

Just look at Mario Kart. Before 2005, its best-selling game was 64 with under 10 million sales. The GameCube iteration, Double Dash, sold under 7 million. Then the DS came along. 22 million sales -- more than double 64's sales. Then MK Wii... 33 million. Nearly 4 times the sales of 64. Nearly 5 times the sales of Double Dash.

The trend isn't stopping. Mario Kart 7 is still tracking ahead of the DS version from aligned launches, and it took just over a year to eclipse Double Dash's lifetime sales. This isn't a series that sells 7 million lifetime anymore. This is a series that sells 7 million in its first year.
