Forums - General Discussion - My disabled Father in Washington State tells me to not use the Lords name in vain...

"Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth." - Exodus 20:12

My dad does the same thing, I just don't use that word around him, and instead use words like shit. instead :P.

Seems like you needed to vent... If you're a religious guy you should know not to take his name in vain but sometimes it slips. I think your father was just reminding you of that.

I know it`s hard, but it shouldn`t be about live up to their words or not, but if they are right or wrong. So, in that case, your dad is right, Ryan.

Btw, hope you and your father can become closer. It`s not alwas easy to take the first step or the next.

My mom says this (though not that fancily) and I'm just like..."Yeah whatever."

You're going to Hell, I guess!

Who cares? Why did that have to be posted here?

It's becoming like facebook over here.

In a conversation with a gay person, would you say ".......That stupid fag", or to a black person "That dumb nigger"?

To a very religious person, its of a similar footing.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Hey that passage doesn't say I'm going to hell. I just won't live long. Lol.

Followed by going to Hell!

When he stopped paying regular payments to my private school I did not ask him to Man up and pay on time. I just left the school and enrolled myself in public school. I never asked for vacations to California, or a NES, or a SNES, or a N64, or BB Gun. When I had a kid too young I did not ask for extra help, I joined the military and handled it myself. All I wanted this guy to do was say something comforting or helpful. Instead He gives me a Bible lesson.

Did I overreact, or is he just lame? By the way, he has always been a rainy day Catholic.

Are you pondering about your father's commitment to you as a son, how good it has been up until now, and how in this situation you expected him to have the least amount of understanding and show encouraging actions towards you?

You should have know what to expect by now. You shouldn't be surprised if a person who follows the Lord is of the belief that neglecting, ignoring, and deny support to a son is the correct way to go. You shouldn't be surprised if some of them understand that that is the correct way to go, by following example provided.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:
