The Sony skin is not bad at all, don't confuse it with Touchwiz or Sense. It is very light. It is mostly consists of Sony apps and frankly they are much better than Google's offerings.

Don't you lie to me MR!

Even if it is light and focuses on apps vs changes to OS UI... it still adds a layer that will require limitations on when I get Google updates... if ever.

it's not impossible but with the chinese competition from Huawei and ZTE it will be tough.. those 2 are expanding quickly in Europe (not in the US cause they are scared for... chinese spyware... I kid you not)

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

1 step at a time. I have confidence that Sony can be eventually fight for the top spot in smartphones, but 1st things 1st.

I give you the updates, but Nexus devices have their limitations too, there are tradeoffs for both approaches. No SD card, unremovable battery, limited storage, limited availability etc. In my country Nexus 10 is out of the question, Nexus 7 will arrive next month for god knows how much and Nexus 4 costs as much as Galaxy S3. Though not ideal, you can just put a custom ROM on it when it stops getting updates as well to increase the lifespan.

No... they sell very well. Have to think only the main Galaxy line probably sells better.

Also depend on the Nexus you're thinking of.

Nexus One was only on one carrier for the longest time and mostly only sold via Google with no subsidy. (HTC made)

Nexus S was only on two carriers with subsidies (Samsung made)

Galaxy Nexus was on every carrier with subsidies (samsung made and sold very well)

Nexus 4 is on all but one carrier(verizon) (LG made and is selling very well too).

Anyone who uses a Nexus will realize how much better the experience is. Plus with the less-than-a-year old move to put Nexus brand in tablets as well, its a brand that is building up the reputation.

i just had that general impression. its good that they sell well, they usually are awesome phones. if it were available were i live i would get a nexus, no costum shit by the manufacturer that slows the phone down, no waiting for updates. i wish companies would offer their phones without the costum layers of optimaztion they put ut

They gotta start somewhere. 3rd place is a realistic goal.

hopefully it will happen this quarter too, from what i am hearing the xperia Z is selling really well

Good luck, the cell phone industry is one of the most competitive markets in the world, samsung, lg, nokia, htc, sony, blackberry, the list goes on and on and they all want a piece of the third world. The most impressive is samsung, never have a seen a nobody go to a somebody, so fast and so decisively, Sony needs to answer the question every potenial customer ask "why should i get this sony x over a competitors y" the market is flooded with android handsets, They might get third place but i dont see them holding it for too long.

competitive in the sense for third place
