How many children have $350 in disposable income? ;)

Seriously, though, it would be a huge hit with all age groups. Pokemon is an insanely popular brand. You only have to look at the fans on this site to see that adults love Pokemon too.

I don't think it will, reason being It would not work with the traditional pokemon format (I.e the popular games on the handhelds). The whole point is you explore the in game-world fighting and catching the pokemon you want as opposed to exploring your local toys-R-Us and picking whatever pokemon you desire. It completely depletes the point of the games. It could maybe be used in an non traditional pokemon game but they are for the most part bad games and do not sell in huge quantities. I'm a pokemon fan but my fandom is limited to the RPGs and not teh franchise as a whole.

I would add that I think the concept of NFC is very limited in its appeal to adults. Unlike children who you can easily fool, we know they're essentially giving you an unfinished game and making you buy all the characters that should have been in it. Unless it was free to play, such a game would undoubtably be the biggest abuse of the modern DLC model imaginable.

Finally SKylanders is a big deal, but its not actually a humungous seller (its highest single platform sales is 2m), more or less in line with Nintendo's weak exclusives. Each game sells in total around 4m across all platforms which is still mighty successfull but the games real power is in its power to draw further revenue from the customer. So If a pokemon NFC was to work it would make tons of money for nintendo, not sure if it would have much effect on the hardware though.

The point is well taken. I agree the toys will be more appealing to younger people.

But I still think many people would buy a Wii U for a console Pokemon game, especially if it was as deep and addictive as the portable titles.

Still, I think it's a moot point. I don't expect a NFC Pokemon game for Wii U anytime soon. I expect this rumored game to be a new IP, and to use NFC pieces included with the software.

It depends if nintendo can market the product well like activision with skylanders. In my opinion Pokemon NFC has the potential of selling more than skylander or any game this year.

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

Depends on relations with Activision. If Activision stops supporting Nintendo, I say get Nintendo to not only rip them off, but make a way better game, and Pokemon is a way better license.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It`s going to be called Pokémon Z with it`s own set of Pokémon. You will also be able to fight with 3DS' X and Y online and locally and gather more Pokémons.

Could work...

Are you sure that would be a good idea? X and Y owners can just catch the pokemons, while the "z" owners need to buy them? XD

Everything that will offered through NFC will have to be bought, so why not? Doesn`t Skylanders work that way?
Imagine that you only have a Wii U version and would like to own more but don`t own a 3DS: get those Pokemon through cards, for example.

I`m not saying Pokemon will use it, because to add Pokemon to the game you would need a bunch of cards or figurines and that would be really expensive.
My guess is that Nintendo will use some new IP and use NFC to breed new life to it: buy a figurine or card and get a special item or challenge. Kinda like DLC but with toys!

Yeah, all things nfc needs to be bought, but my point is that it is VERY simple to get kick ass pokemons in the main series. If you have to buy the pokemons, and they aren't even as good as the ones that you catch for free in x and y, there is no point of playing that way. I think that "Z" should be a standalone game, that can have some kind of interactivity between each other. Some connectivity with X and Y would be cool too, and could help sales (like pokemons only obtainable from "Z").

In my mind Z would be a standalone game that could interact with the 3DS' games.
The buyable Pokemon would be a way to lure people into... wait for it... a Pokemon MMO! SHOCK! :D

Imagine you having a 3DS and Wii U and taking you X or Y Pokemon games online for some quests?

The more connectivity the better. But I would say that it would be terribbly unfair if there were som kind of battle system between the two, unless the figurines were more powerfull than normal pokemons, so that everyone would get an exentive to buy the things.

More people have to buy the dang WiiU 1st for that to work.

If they for once make a competend commercial it should be possible. And if a pokemon nfc game launches this holiday, it will probably get company with a mario game that will sell more consoles, and the game will ride on the popularity of x and y. Maybe some kind of connectivity between the two games, like some pokemons you can only get in the nfc game, and then you can transfer it over to x and y.

I dont know why people allways talk about Nintendo making competent commercials. Advertising agency "Leo Burnett" makes all commercials for Nintendo since Wii. Why they made great commercials for the Wii and why their commercials are lacking for the WiiU, nobody knows. Perhaps they where less inspired?

Anyhow, a Pokemon Z for WiiU using Skylanders type NFC stuff released in october at the same time as Pokemon X and Y for 3DS would be nice.

Well from my perspective the wii u commercials are some of the worst I hav ever seen, the 3ds commercials sucks, but the wii would like to play are the work of a genius. If they make a wii would like to play with u or something like that, and not screw it up with a "im not a gamer but blablabla anyway" or stupid music, that would be more than enough.

Actually, we've all lamented over why Nintendo never made a Pokemon MMO for Wii. But a Pokemon MMO where instead of a monthly fee, you unlocked additional content with new toy pokemon purchases (ala Skylanders) would be genius and ought to be a huge seller and a huge system seller for the WiiU.

The problem with mmo games are that parents don't like that their kids play with it. So I think they should make a open world rpg were you play as the pokemons (either from cards or figurines), were you have some kind of online interactivity, like destiny is supposed to have, only that it isn't neccecery to be online at all times.

I think that a lot of people would by it, because cards and pokemon figurines are still big, at least here in norway. Such a game would not only sell well in itself, but it would also boost the sales of cards/figurines.

If Pokemon Z had the same kind of Pokemon as the other two versions and they evolved the same way it could still be fair.
Of course, adquiring Pokemon through NFC is just one solution. Instead of adquiring Pokemon, Nintendo could opt, for fairness sake, use NFC to make extra Gyms (that`s the word right?) or quests, etc.

If Nintendo decided to add more 150 Pokemon through cards or figurines, parents would go broke! :D

Yeah, but a "Z" owner would need to pay money to get reshiram for example, and the cards are ofcource random. An owner of x and y could just go onto the gts and trade a deoxys (like me, I got 6 of 'em :D)
