Forums - Sony Discussion - Why buy the PS4?

It will be the innovative tablet controller they patented last year or so.

You won't have to worry about me buying anything sony. Sorry they pissed this customer off years ago and I'm still P'ed off. Just my opinion.

I also used to work in the moving company when I was teenager and had to move their mutha f'ing concrete filled Trinitrons. Just adds to it LOl

Personally, I hope Sony will give me a reason to update in the press conference. So far, I only see the disadvantage of losing my extensive ps3 games library in PSN (mix of purchases and PS+ fringes). I am seriously considering buying a PC that, despite the high entry costs, becomes cheaper in the longer term due to the low cost of acquiring games at Steam sales and more permanent as it does have backcompatibility.

With the PS1, PS2, and PS3 there were additional, technical reasons why to purchase the latest console.  However, the PS4 won't really offer any major advancement over the previous iteration except for graphic fidelity and overall CPU power.  But tech wise, no new optical media as with the PS1, PS2, or PS3.

So what reason is there to buy the PS4?

PS4: Bluray, 4K, last but not least: Gaikai

Bluray still has not won over dvd so you can't expect them to come with something new.

The next Xbox will also feature Blu-Ray (note the correct usage of the trademark), 4K video/TV, and cloud-based gaming.  Not that the latter will really be a strong selling point, despite what you think.   Likewise, if Blu-Ray hasn't replaced DVD, than I doubt next generation it will either due to the fact that digital distribution is becoming so popular for TV and movies.

The only thing I have heard so far, for a credible reason to buy a PS4, is if you're already into Sony exclusive games.  One reason.  It's not a bad reason, but there's got to be more than that one reason.

What is exciting people about the PS4?

Before the PS3 was released there was a LOT of excitement about the PS3.  I'm not feeling ANY of it with the PS4.

Then digital distribution is the next big thing of the PlayStation family.

If it's BC,then that should be reason enough,to start out with.

ha ha, I did buy my PS3 as it was the cheapest bluray player on the market at the time, which came with added advantage of playing some awesome games - so I know where you're coming from with this thread. If PS4 doesn't have a new optical medium, it will be less attractive than the PS3 was, but it will still have excellent games which will justify purchasing it.

I agree with you, the reason I chose PS3 over 360 was that is was also a blu-ray player.
