Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is releasing a $400 plus console a bad Idea?

Id say they will be $350-450 depending on memory. I think for most gamers $400-450 is their limit.

No, I think that is a reasonable price to launch at once you get higher than that is when it starts getting a little tricky.

It's not a bad idea as long as compelling games and features are released along side it.

Also, the visuals are going to have to be a noticeable step up in order to justify a $400+ price tag. If the games only look slightly better than what is currently offered (which may be the case at launch), then alot of people will balk at buying a new console and will continue to stick with PS360 for the time being.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Anyone with a ps3 will most likely buy a ps4, regardless of price. Especially the CoD kiddies.

Seeing how the sales from the PS3 lacked compared to those of the PS2 I wouldn't be so sure. And what about CoD? I'd bet with you it will still release on the PS3 for at least the next 2 iterations.

It was a mistake in 2006 (ask Sony) and it'd be a worse mistake now. In 2006 you were only competing with other consoles and PCs. PCs were generally regarded as on their way out (and even more expensive to buy) so no prob. All it did was slow your userbase growth.

Now with tablets being major gaming devices (they are used for games more than anything else) and leaping in power yearly, and Android having several home consoles releasing this year - It is imperative to grow your user base as fast as possible. If not, they risk being matched or outstriped in power by tablets (and Android consoles) prematurely and losing sales. Don't think EA/Ubisoft/etc won't be porting all their games over to tablets/Android consoles if they have similar specs - they will. If there's money in it, they will do it and iOS/Android are FAR larger markets than any console will have. Sure tablets are expensive too but they are far, far more than gaming machines and so far Android consoles are a lot cheaper so they offer better value for the money.

Only reason the playstation 2 had more sales was because  there wasn't any other console to buy. lol
