Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: New Sonic game to be announced next month for all consoles( including PS4,720) 20 stages and 10 playable characters.

Yes! Looking forward to this. I've went back to playing Generations this week, and I've been having a blast. Had to go straight to Youtube and download some of the sountrack! City Escape, what a nostalgic trip that was.

It will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, PS Vita, and 3DS, as well as “next-gen” consoles.

The above is the part that makes me suspicious.

Why? Because let's look at the previous generation's (2006 and later) Sonic game sales (not including ports like the Sonic Genesis collection, or non-adventure spinoffs like the Mario & Sonic games or All-Stars Racing):

1. Sonic and the Secret Rings - Wii
2. Sonic Unleashed - Wii
3. Sonic Colors - Wii
4. Sonic Rivals - PSP
5. Sonic Rivals 2 - PSP
6. Sonic Colors - DS
7. Sonic Rush Adventure - DS
8. Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 - PS3
9. Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 - 360
10. Sonic Generations - PS3

The top 8 sold over a million, the top 2 sold in the vicinity of 2 million. And the worst-selling Sonic Wii title (adventure) was Sonic and the Black Knight, which was just a touch below Sonic Generations for the PS3

In short, if they were going to port the game to that many platforms (including both PS3/360 and their next-gen counterparts), the chance that they would leave the Wii off the list is rather small (don't bother bringing up Sonic Generations - that was on four platforms, not eight).

Let me be clear - I'm not saying that Sega would put any Sonic game on the Wii. I'm saying that I doubt that they would skip the Wii if they're making versions for all of those other platforms, for the simple reason that it would be a guaranteed way to get a significant amount of money, based on past Wii performance and the fact that they wouldn't have to remake assets (3DS and Vita versions would use similar assets), and the code base is likely similar to that used in games like Colors and Generations. If their intent was to draw the markets over to the new consoles, then they wouldn't be putting it on PS3 and 360, either.

Of course, there's still a slim chance that it's true. But it's a slim one, in my opinion. It's possible that the rumour started with a kernel of truth - new Sonic game to be announced next month, being put on a lot of platforms - and it just kind of grew from there.

New Super Sonic Ganerations 2

Switch!!!

I'm expecting the worst..... just in case.

If the rumour is true and the game will be on those consoles listed then it is a game that will bridge the gap between current gen (including wiiu) and next gen 720/ps4, The wii will not be powerful enough to run it and I doubt they can be bothered downgrading the graphics for the wii, especially considering the average wii software sales of 1.5 per person.

So you do think another Sonic game will be released

This is worrying as the rumor doesnt make much sense. saying that wil have the style of Unleashed, colors and generations. Unleashed was modern sonic, as was colors with some more 2D sections. Generations had 2 distinct styles.

So my hope is, we get 2D gameplay, or if we have to get 3D portions that they control like Sonic adventure games and not like modern Sonic, wich i loathe the gameplay.
Having different characters is definitly a plus for me.

The way this sounds though, the 3DS version will probably be the cream of the crop gameplay wise, just like it was with Sonic Generations.
Also, if they do 2D with that engine again (360/PS3) fix the delay issues. The modern sonic half of the game was bad enough without the 2D section having to suffer from jump delay (this happens in the 360 version. Dunno about the other ones.

If the game turns out to be modern sonic gameplay completely, i will probably miss the home console versions+vita and keep to the 3DS one. I think its time we end that modern gameplay that has been killing the series.

First of all, 1.5 per person? Where are you pulling that number from? Your arse?

You're on a website that actually provides these sorts of numbers. The Wii's average tie ratio is 8.5 per person, over 10 per person in America.

Second of all, they're releasing the game for 3DS and Vita. Neither system is dramatically more powerful than the Wii, as I said in my post.

But hey, why bother reading what someone says, or actually using your brain, when you can just spout fanboy nonsense (like claiming the Wii U is part of the 'current gen', but then the other two will be next-gen - I bet you kept referring to the Wii as "last gen", too) and ignore logic?

I really hope its sonic adventure 3

Your right the wii's software sales per person are nowhere near 1.5 per person, Heard that on a tgs podcast and didn't bother checking the facts which were completley wrong, and for the record im not a playstation/xbox fanboy or anti-nintendo in anyway.
