Most people think Nokia is doomed, it's not a good example.

The problem is that Nokia is also on financial difficulties...

well sony IS restructuring. And they are investing a lot of money into different things too so it's not like they are just focusing on selling or anything. I mean they will most likely sell their battery business too. It's useless to them in the long run.

downsizing will make the company more stable. i dont know why people always take it as a completely bad thing. cut off the finger to save the hand.

Bingo. Kaz keeps saying this too. Sony needs a better focus

Becoming smaller isn't always a good thing. It will surely keep the company more stable but that would mean people losings jobs, investors losing faith in the company and all and all bad press. I personally don't see it as a terrible thing, but in the in long run it could be very bad for the company.

Boy is that Gaikai aquisition biting them in the ass...

Sony needs to learn how to think at the margin!

Well to me its locical. They cut a lot of jobs and sell the building. They get a lot of money to invest and stable there company. Not a bad thing in my eyes. Sonyneed to get smaller.

In the case of Sony..yes it definitely is. I know people will lose jobs and it's regretabble but from a business point of view they are too big so to speak. The focus is all over the place and that hurts their individual divisions. This is why Kaz is mainly focusing on 3 divisions and cutting the fat so to speak. This should also help cut down on their R&D expenses too which was out of control the last time I read about it. Investors have no reason to lose faith if the moves are going to work best for the company in the long run. Kaz mentioned about having a better focus in several interviews at CES too. He has the right idea

I think some people are going to be depressed when the PS4 comes out and it's at least a decent console. It's obvious so many people want Sony to go away and never ever come back.

Sony is all over the place, they are trying to focus on certain branches to maximize quality and profit from those areas.
