Forums - General Discussion - Should vgchart mods be Internet police?- Necro bans and double jeopardy as well!

We try to draw the line on things that affect VGChartz. If it involves VGChartz in some way (the user is a part of VGChartz and you're assaulting them while making direct reference to VGChartz being the cause, if you bring stuff you do on other sites to VGChartz in order to cause a fuss, etc.) then there is a chance that you'll be moderated for it.

The incident between you and Carl had you making threads  to try and bad-talk Carl on other sites. Notice how those sites didn't want any of it on their forums? It was a direct reference to Carl and that is why you were moderated for it. Carl was also warned for his attack at you. As for this whole Facebook thing, I don't know what you're talking about so enlighten me if you wish so I might try to explain.

The identity theft incident is something different and unique. It is beyond our jurisdiction as it is higher up the food chain in terms of punishment - it is illegal. However, more went on about that than the rest of the chartz knows and needs to know. If crissindahouse wishes to share more on what went on with that incident he can. But it is not my right to divulge the happenings as it was a private matter between two other people. Just know that the mods were watching it and keeping contact in order to act as necessary if it was required. Try not to jump to conclusions just because you don't see something visibly. Warning and banning is not all we do.

As for this other user doing something crazy all over other sites, if the user in question somehow tries to bring this crazy stuff from other sites onto VGChartz (say as calling out other users on those sites that are from VGChartz, or attempting to bait users on VGChartz with their material from the other sites), they can be moderated for it as it has made its way to altering behavior on VGChartz.

For a hypothetical example, say I start making threads on Gamespot about how axum is an incompetent head mod for VGChartz. That is attacking a member of VGChartz directly and it's pretty clear that the mod team should take action. Say now that I become active on Gamespot, become a big member there and even get involved at the staff level. Once I do, I start trolling one of the console companies like crazy and start posting those news articles from Gamespot on VGC to cause problems. That is also something that the mod team would take action on.

Hope this clarifies some things

This is a good post.  It makes sense, and at the same time I'm not sure if people realized it but most people here aren't paying to access this websites resources.  Accessing this website is a privilege, not a right you own.  So I do think the OP needs to calm down.

Check miz's wall for other dramatic stories!

@Spurge: I don't know, I just assumed it would,  I am not saying it should be.

Oh my goodness, that thread was golden. Thanks for that!

Just like head mods before him, Axumblade is eventually going to have to evaluate the moderation team.

Some mods will go out and new ones will come in. It's the cycle of life.

In other words you will have justice spurge. It may take a few years though.

Last paragraph is interesting. How do you check identity in such a case? What if someone opens an account in the name of a different user here and starts bad mouthing to cause trouble for said user?

I was interested that no action came from the aldro incident recently which had a number of users bad mouthing pretty much the entire site, the mods and 360 users.  One member, Riderz, used his own name to do it, quite open about it - no action. Other users impersonated users here to hide their identity acted like total dicks and bad mouth like crazy. Pretty vile childish stuff actually.

Mods were aware, yet no action.

Was that something to so with the shoutbox everyone was on during the VGAs?

That's the tricky part. We can't always tell who is who on other sites. In cases where it's pretty clear (like the Turkish reviews thing or spurge on Gamespot) we can act with more conviction and proof. For example, sales_2099 is the well known General_M1LD from Youtube. He doesn't bring that stuff here and if someone else does, we're not going to ban sales for having it show up on this site. When some user named General_M1LD showed up on VGC and started harassing sales_2099, it's pretty obvious this General_M1LD is not the same one on VGC. We try to use logic and whatever facts we have to narrow these things down to make sense.

In the case you bring up with the chat room, there really isn't any way to tell who is who and who is doing what. If there is, you can be damn sure we'd be on it. And if it's offsite and you can identify someone doing something slanderous towards another VGC user with proof, let us know. We will look into it.

Well Riderz was blatant, other obvious users hid their ID so I get that.

Why are you so pissed all the time? Who did this to you tell me

"Another User did some crazy stuff all over other sites and nothing happened."

Who's that?!

Vga's and ces

I was only in the VGA one for half an hour before the show. I don't think anybody was being directly offensive, just acting like idiots. Even I was pretending to be other people for a bit of a laugh (admitted it soon after though).
