The same would be said if Apple closed this big of a gap while windows sold less than the previous windows.  It isn't hard to figure out guys.

Gained marketshare in Europe - Agreed. Things gotten better in Japan? - No. It still struggles and the nextbox needs to do even better to lift the impending drag it would face in that market. The fact that PS3 has performed well across all regions where Europe has been the biggest performer and the fact that it outsold 360 every year since 2009 is also a clear indicator of who actually won. You are using sales figures, profits(confined to region) and just improved marketshare as elements of console's success. This is the reason why MS strategy never worked  in their favor outside US. And the fact that PS3 has outsold 360 in Europe and Japan ages ago is something MS needs to carry over , understand its significance to become the clear winner of next generation. Ofcourse PS3 didn't perform like PS2, but it's on par with PS1. It lost a fair amount of exclusives and marketshare from MS this generation. But it was never poised to fail like how Gamecube and original Xbox failed.


Exactly my point. I always know how true, or valid my point is, based on how combative the comments are. It was a very simple post, with a very clear message. And instead of saying, "Wow, that's true, didn't realize that." you get petty bickering comments. At least one member on these forums actually thinks rationally (GameAnalyser) and understands that despite the media and advertising about 360 and it's success in America, that the PS3 is better worldwide.

The point of a thread is to discuss and jaywood seems to be doing that, you seem upset that people are discussing in a thread you knew would get a negativereaction from in the first place. You also seem to try to deny the success of the Xbox while trying to somehow insinuate the PS3 is a success. The PS3 is not asuccess in any front what so ever epically if you haven't made one dollar in profit in 6 years. PS3 is out selling the Wii know what that means, nothing consideringthe Wii destroyed the PS3

You continue to be one of the simpletons that I refer to. If you read through my posts you see that I have respect for the 360 and it's acomplishments, but that the PS3 is doing better worldwide than the 360. And for you to say that the "PS3 is not asuccess in any front what so ever" just reaffirms that you ARE one of the simpletons I'm referring to, and there's no reaching people like you.

That's actually when the Wii was reigning so...... But the PS3 did have second.

Still, I'm happy the PS3 was able to achieve this.

So while it's been a rough generation for Sony as far as PERCEPTION goes....in reality Sony knows they continue to lead the gaming market, not Microsoft. Now in 2013, if the rumors are true, both consoles will ship practically side by side......Sony knows they are about to take the lead for this furture generation again, but this time with the PERCEPTION of leading, as well as actually leading.

It's actually only been the world wide leader for one year, 2011, and that's only if you take VGC numbers as factual.

For starters, no, it's not really been a rough gen just in the perception. They lost a ton of marketshare, ate through all the revenue the PS2 brought in for them, and allowed MS to gain a ton of ground in the market. Even when the PS3 passes the 360 WW, it has still not been a good generation at all for Sony and the PS3. Lastly, no, they are not "continuing to lead the market". They, just like MS, got their butts kicked by Nintendo this gen.

PS3 is also going to end up with 10+ million sales over the 360 in a territory that will never accept an American console. So they have that huge feather in their cap this gen. But Japan is a dying land for home consoles, Sony won't have that to rely on next gen. They'll need to do something about the USA next gen, it's the biggest market in the industry.
