Forums - Sales Discussion - PSV and PSP still have Nightmare sales in America almost one year later- Now what?

I'm sure it's fine. Sony has a long term plan for the system and it involves ps4 and gaikai. I'm not worried, but feel free to go nuts.

Like it or not, quality has little to do with the handheld gaming world. Repetition rules that gamespace in North America. Sony needs something repetitious and trite like Pokemon or Mario to appeal to children. Quality should be a secondary concern. It just has to be something trendy they can make twenty versions of. They need to throw a bunch of crap at the wall and see if any of it sticks. Nintendo knows that it's all about taking something and ramming it down the throats of the general public until they not only like it, but they keep buying every semi-new version you can churn out. Sony shouldn't worry about making something good, just making a bunch of junk until they can find the next Skylanders or whatever.

No offense but this sounds a little rage-y. 'Repetitous' and 'trite' didn't sell the PSP...

Rage-y?  I don't think so.  Can it really be denied that much of Nintendo's success isn't predicated on repetition?  In order to reach that point, Sony has to find something that can become a popular trend.  That goes far beyond monsters fighting one another or having a shallow character jump on stuff.  If they took the next 2D Mario game and turned it into another IP it wouldn't sell a fraction of what a generic Mario title would.  People have decided they'll like a Mario game the moment they see the box.  Sony has to find something that is popular in focus groups then market the living hell out of it.

Sure, it's true that I don't understand how people buy the same stuff over and over, but I definitely recognize the genius in what Nintendo has accomplished.  They're at a point now where the same people would buy anything Mario or Pokemon.  Even if it was horrible and the complaints came flooding in, those same people would buy the next version.  That's impressive.

What I'm saying is, to reach that point, Sony is going to have to find something trendy first, something that resonates with kids.  Kids really don't care that much about quality.  In order to find that thing, they should just throw stuff out there.  Anything that performs well in focus groups, throw it out there.  See if any of it catches on.  Then they can ride the wave for the next 20 years.

This whole situation can basically be blamed on one company: Capcom

So Vita can only sell Capcom's games?

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I don't know what they can do in the US, but I feel like they can sell huge numbers if they get a game like MH. They should pay a lot to get a huge game like that.

With several big exclusives, along with being the slickest handheld on the market, the Vita along with the PSP still ( a year later) are not able to even put up a fight to the dying DS.

People said, " Marketing!, Price Cut, Bundle, Exclusives, etc." Ok. Done! That still did not seem to matter. So now what is Sony's next step? If they can afford to do anymore steps that is.

I am Worried.

No, not "done".

Exclusives are still lacking and price cut is nowhere to be seen.

What Vita needs is that I said above, Vita exclusive games(that are not on PS3) and at least a $50 price cut. If Sony is smart enough, also a re-launch with a new design as well. After seeing Vita sales this last holiday I can safely say it needs more than just a good holiday deal to get past this. Sony needs to get Vita on its feet BEFORE the holidays start since that's when the Nintendo stuff sells.

It also needs a yearly franchise. Call of Duty Vita and Assassin's Creed would be great if they make it a yearly thing, but actualy put some more effort into making these.

doesn't Sony give a rats ass about portable gaming?

They never did really. Their main focus is on home consoles.

The funny thing is that with Nintendo its the opposite. Their focus is on portables over home consoles. Why do you think they suddenly stopped supporting the Wii? 3DS took priority, and if they couldn't make that sell then the whole company would have been in trouble. That $80 price cut was a sign of how much they depend on that portable market. They've been raking in most of their profits from that division ever since the Gameboy days. They aren't going to let that go without a fight. THIS IS WHY SONY HAS NO CHANCE AGAINST THE 3DS. Sony just isn't as commited to it especially now with tablet/smartphone gaming being so dominant.

Create a new IP that everyone will swarm over like Pokemon. Enough with the embarrassing ports and half-baked games.

That's not possible. Pokemon has built a fanbase over many years. You don't just create an IP and then it instantly sells tens of millions of units. It doesn't work like that. Nintendo has proved themselves with Pokemon like Sony has proved themselves with Gran Turismo. These franchises take time and effort to be turned into huge sellers. It's not an overnight thing.

This is not true in Pokemon's case, the 1st gen of Pokemon sold better than all its successive gens. What does Sony have? They next Mh can lift it in Japan , GT for europe, (is there a gigantic seller in NA? actually don't know this). But if even one of those are absent, the demand in that specific region plummets.

Pokemon actually WAS an overnight sensation, it suddenly released in Japan and took the country by storm (R/B/Y remain the best selling games in Japan to date) which just naturally spread to other regions. They need a brilliant creative new idea that can only be done on the VIta platform.

This thing needs the next big hit, it's not impossible as it has been done before by Nintendo multiple times. (Wii Sports? Came outta nowhere. Super Mario Bros? exploded onto the scene, there was no "Mario" fanbase before this game. I already mentioned Pokemon.)

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Ah, yet another "only junk sells to teh stupid casualz and our superior games do not sell!!!1" post.. Seems to be the quote of the generation.

Yes, I'm sure making a bunch of junk is a GREAT business decision -_-

Vita Games>3DS Games currently.

There nothing else that Sony can do. The Vita have good game out there, just no one want to jump in. I blame the PS3 for the Vita failure in America.

there's still no gran turismo, god of war, gran theft auto etc.. these games need to release. a PROPER call of duty needs to happen aswell.
