Forums - Nintendo Discussion - WiiU is doing horrible in America, we need to talk about it

What a great number of people here don't realise is that wii was a success because of the motion controls and wii fit. Call them gimmic or whatever you want. That's what made wii a success. Not Mario or Zelda. A Mario game can help a handheld a lot, but not so much a home console.

But what about Mario? Or Brawl? They sold very well.
Yes, they sure did, but similar games were released on the gamecube and didn't help its sales that much.

I bought a wii in 2008 and have wii sports, wii fit, mario galaxy, brawl, a naruto, mortal kombat and a sonic game.
Had it not been for the innovation of the motion controls, I wouldn't have bought one (or Mario Galaxy, which wasn't a system seller for me, just a game to play after the excitement over the wii sports tennis game was over) and I kind of regret my purchase, as I have tons of ps3 games I'm more excited about and don't see getting around playing any time soon.

Just like the psp, a lot of people felt that they got burnt with their wii, especially after 2009 and are not interested in buying its successor.

I hope moderators start taking action and stop the madness with all the doom threads.

I don't think sub-500k is "good" sales for any platform in December unless there is heavy supply restriction and 100% sell-out (basically).

By your logic, a typical console launch in the same timeframe of PS3 and Wii U cannot have good December sales without heavy supply restrictions. Sub-500k is rather normal in a situation like this one.

Is this really any point to buying a Wii U right now? HD consoles have much bigger libraries at cheaper prices and almost all of the same games. Nintendoland and the tablet aren't as big as a deal as the Wii with Wii Sports/motion control gaming either.

Nintendo hasn't really given a big reason to buy a Wii U right now except the promise of future games. I don't think the first half of the year is going to be that great for the Wii U so Nintendo needs to bring their guns to E3.

I thinking making a system so similar to the PS3/360 in performance was a massive, massive mistake on Nintendo's part.

It worked for the Wii only because the Wii had an incredible, once-every-10-20-years type of revolution that totally changed the game experience by getting people off the couch and on their feet.

We have a December NPD thread. We don't need this.
