Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is anybody else losing faith in console gaming right now?

As for Sony, their games have never done it for me. I have never been a fan of their cutsene-heavy games that seem to rely more on story and cinematics than actual gameplay. Also, their PS3 is STILL too expensive to me, which is absurd considering the console is now over 6 years old.

... Uncharted + Heavy Rain =/= SCE.

i have different reasons but similar conclusions.

..but i won't be PC gaming. i find myself drawn to other hobbies more and more lately.

I feel the same way every end of generation/start of a new one, I get tired of getting the same games every year or every 2 years. I want something new!

But this time there's also the, to me, wrong direction that the games industry is taking looking more and more to be like Hollywood. I want videoGAMES, not interactive movies. Mind you, I'm not saying that every game should be like Nintendo games with almost no story, far from it, but the more important part is the game, not the story and certainly not the cinematics or quick time events.

And yet, nowadays I find myself playing a lot with my PC. I guess it's because I don't feel motivated to turn on my consoles when my PC is already on. :-/

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

right now yes, come E3 that will all change

WII U // PC // 3ds XL // VITA

No. For me the dark age of consoles was mid to late 90s. I nearly gave up on gaming back then. As for expensive while systems are a bit much games are dirt cheap these days. I have easily 30 games on my PS3 that cost $10 to buy.

I have mixed feelings about the console market, but if phone or tablet gaming is my alternative I would just quit gaming allttogether.

For me its the idea of PS3 taking 2nd (no biggie though as 360 has been beating them for 7 years), which is the equivalent of a son getting really drunk and wrecking his fathers (PS2) car. But since he comes from a rich family, the father bails him out....basically the gamers elevating PS3 despite its missteps.

Wii and 360 are real Cinderella stories, two brands that elevated themselves from the past gen with hard work and good business tactics. PS3 success is just so....undeserved.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

i never really understand the all or nothing attitude, things come and go,i like the online part of psn/plus of the PS3 renting movies and playing games like journey, sam & max and walking dead for example,i bought far cry 3 for £20 over xmas and just started playing it,really enjoying it but each to their own i guess

I'll be honest DLC has ruined console gaming for me, my mind cant grasp why im paying 60 bucks for a game and have to purchase content that should be included with the game. Day 1 DLC and on disc DLC has got to be the biggest slap in the face ever.

Nope I LOVE my PS3 and my WiiU :) playing my PS3 as we speak! LotR War in the North

I thought I was the only one who bought that game. Which character do you use the most?

OT: Nope. Quite the opposite. I'm getting more and more impressed by what home consoles have to offer. I already have enough ps3 games for the rest of my life and I'm loving most of them.

Let me put it like this:

I've barely touched my PS3 in months.

I traded in all my games for it a few weeks ago, and haven't missed it. Almost all of my gaming time has been spent on my Vita, particularly PSP games. I can't think of anything coming out next year I'm willing to buy for more than $30, if at all--and yes, I know about GOW:Ascension, MGR and The Last of Us.

As far as the next gen goes? I've never been less enthused. There are no technological vistas left to explore, and the Wii U's design suggests that all the hysteria over smartphones/tablets is clearly getting to the console makers. I expect to see casual-orientation become a major factor, regardless of how powerful the 720 and PS4 end up being.

This generation has probably been the most disappointing and unengaging of all the ones I've been around for. And all the stuff I didn't like about it--blockbuster iterative nonsense, online passes, shady DLC practices, casual-angling gimmickry, etc.--stand to get worse with the next gen instead of better.

I don't think my faith in the industry has ever been lower than it's been for the past couple of years.
