Really this thread is going to be based on ones beleifs .. and nothing more.. This forum company has more members in Europe.. In the USA the 360 is 25 million ahead of the PS3.. The PS4 can't be the #1 consoles without getting America back ( a tough task ) .. The PS2 dominated America and the PS2 was simply just 1st place - It was 90 million consoles ahead of the 2nd place Xbox 1 ( which launched 1.5 years after the PS2 - and had much less developer support since it was a first effort console ).. Although the 2nd place race is close.. the 360 accomplished something pretty astonishing - its sold almost 50 million more consoles then the Xbox 1 ( which sold around 24 million ) - And it did it in only a single generation: In just the 2nd effort MS has gained a respectable percentage of world sales.. If they gain even 5% sales worldwide with NextBox - they wont have any problem.. Again Sony can't make a comback with the USA.. If anyone disagrees - Sony is spending a additional 50 million in advertising in the USA just trying to help Vita sales.  America can make or break a handheld or console ( When it comes to Dominance v/s  being just another 'good console" ).  The most loyal Sony fans only 6 years ago were pretty darn sure the PS3 would be in 1st place by now - or even a strong 2nd - and 4 years ago most were saying in just a few more years the tide would sure change - but here were are still debating in 2013 when the PS3 will 'hopefully' overtake and be 2nd place - when honestly it doesn't matter much - it would be more a moral victory since Sony is more concerned about turning the PS division back into profitability and dominance - something it doesnt have much of now. And again it still cost more to make a PS3 then a 360.. Going by sales which is not subject to much opinion.. The PS3 was successful but not the most sucessful.. despite free online gaming ( which is nice ) and a whole list of reason to buy the PS3 the magic wasn't there this generation.. If Sony is truly making the PS4 more like a PC ( or yeah - even more like an Xbox ) Sony will be essentially saying CELL was a mistake otherwise they'd stick with it.. It cost more and takes more time to develop quality games for..  more time means more money and less profits.. and the PS3 still cost more to make then the other 2 consoles.. There is mounting evidence the new Playstation President didn't want and won't be using the updated version of CELL ( which was the plan of the previous PS head guru ) and will be ditching it for a more contemporary setup that is more developer friendly ..

The PlayStation 4 will not use Sony's Cell processor nor any possible successor to the vaunted chipset that was introduced to the world through the PlayStation 3, gaming industry sources tell Kotaku.

What we're hearing from sources follow a Forbes rumor last week that chip-maker AMD would make the graphics chip for a PS4, a shift from the PS3's use of a graphics chip from AMD rival Nvidia.

The abandonment of the Cell architecture would thrill the many game developers who have struggled with the complex chipset, but it could also be viewed as the admission of a mistake.

Cell was the pet project of PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi, who dreamed that the chip—a "Power Processing Element" married to eight "Synergistic Processing Elements"—would make the PS3 the most impressive gaming console ever. He spoke of a home equipped with multiple devices that were powered by Cell, all of them linking to each other to increase the computational power driving any of the devices.

Cell was not the revolution Sony hoped and hyped that it would be. It also never managed to make the PS3 appear to be significantly more powerful than the year-older Xbox 360. That could have been the Cell's fault or simply the result of development decisions that compelled game creators to make their games run on both the PS3 and the generally-more-popular Xbox 360.

Hellz naw... SEGA CD is the best CD-based system of all time!

I know your joking but the Sega CD was an impressive piece of tech back then and it had some really great games. It gets a bad name because of the the FMV games that were prevelent at the time, but the Sega CD wasn't inherently bad. Lunar 1 and 2, Snatcher, Silpheed, Sega CD, Popful Mail, Vay, Monkey Island, Shinning Force CD, and a number of other shooters proved the system worthy. Unfortunely Sega of America shifted focus to the 32X.

I sometimes wonder if Sega of America hadn't pushed the 32X on to the market and if the Sega had tried harder to get people to switch to CD if the cartrige would have died off sooner and the Saturn would have come a little later.

UMD disc is the best!

You cant play Crisis Core without it!

The PS3 has one fatal flaw that it has yet to recover from. It lacks Halo games. Halo 4 is the game of the generation.

You spelled it wrong. The correct way Is Uncharted 2.

I think the PS3 is the best BD based system...

CD based... ummm... PS1?

DVD based is really hard to tell, in terms of graphics it surely is the XBOX 360, game quality wise it would be prolly the original XBOX, though I like the PS2 overall more.

Disk based overall... I would go with a ranking like... based on my opinion what quality is:

PS3 >= PS1 > XBOX >= PS2 >= Wii > GC > PSP > Sega Saturn > XBOX360

the Wii itself is really hard to place in the upper ranking...or if we go by amount of joy given to me:

PS1 > PS3 ?> PS2 > XBOX > GC > Wii > PSP > Sega Saturn > XBOX360

I am thinking of placing the PS3 under the PS2 there though... since it is really lacking the Suikoden games...
I can't really judge the Wii U, since I have never seen it in action so far (well, I only listed consoles I have played/play regularly at some point in my life anyway)...

No spelling mistake. PS3 has Uncharted but fails to have Halo.

After the crap drive the PS2 had, im happy Sony learned their lesson.

The Original PlayStation is the best CD based system ever.

It is a Fun Games Treasure Trove, A Unique Game Goldmine, An Exclusive Games Extravaganza, With New IPs Galore.

Sheer Excellence was destined for Saturn and N64, but it was the no name PlayStation that came in and dominated with exclusive game, after game, after game, after game.

That is crazy talk nowadays and will never happen in the multiplat-athon the industry has become.

PlayStation 1, I salute the, as the rightful owner of the crown. Best! Game! Library! Ever! :D
