Lol at some of the comments here.

Use your brain people, there are several countries where 360 OR PS3 OR Wii sells fewer amounts than the 360 does in Japan and they're not losing money on it.

Of course they should launch it there.

i think they lost money there because they tried much to sell there with advertisement and collaborations which isn't the same in other countries with lower sales. i don't really believe the few million sold consoles (most of them with a loss per console because of much higher sales in the first years) and some games brang more revenue as they paid for all of that.

but maybe they made more mprofit worldwide because they tried it in japan and got some japanese games but i think japan alone wasn't profitable. maybe that's what you meant and i didn't get it.

but what i don't understand is what 007bondagent means, just because the 360 is selling less in japan as some years ago has to mean the nextbox can't sell better as the 360? makes no sense to me. nextbox could also sell much better the frist years as the years after and sell better on a weekly basis as the 360 did (or less or the same).

was probably the same with xbox which sold better in the first year as the years after and 360 sold much more.

I just said that simply launching a console in any country, even if it only sells 1m is surely not a mistake.

What MS did was optional and they surely didn't make as much money (if any) in Japan as in other countries with the same userbase.
(Though on the software site, it has a pretty good attach ratio compared to the other consoles.)

If they simply launch the 720 there without any kind of special advertisement or exclusive deals, I think any decent amount of hardware sales will be enough to justify it.

Japan is the largest closed market in the world, it would be a waste of time being that they prefer mainly their domestic products.

That applies to almost every country around the globe man. There is a reason why Apple is much more succesful in the US than they will ever be in Europe. Same reason is why the US is the place where the 360 sells the most.

You know Austrailia is a smaller market then Japan, yet MS releases there.

Every market counts.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yes they will. Compared to the original Xbox the Xbox 360 did gangbusters in Japan. MS also knows that they need Japanese games on their system to compete in the rest of the world too. I expect MS to put as much or more effort into Japan as they did this gen and we will see the Xbox brand continue to grow there. The Japanese are slowly starting to adopt foreign tech so MS needs to keep pushing until the Japanese finally get what the rest of us already know. Halo kicks ass.

How could it be growing when it was selling better 3-4 years ago?

So a brand is only growing if it sells more units each year?  Bizarre way to look at it.

It is a growing brand because last gen they sold 0.53m consoles and this gen thay have so far sold 1.63m.  Pretty sure thats growth.

xbox hasn't grown in japan since 2008-2009

Infact most of it's sales came from it's early years, proving it's declining

Halo doesn't kick as...Its ass.
And Japanese don't play FPS that much - What they started to play a little bit is CoD and THAT ONLY ON PS3!

And what would they change for the NextBox compared to the start of the 360?
With the 360 they got nearly the best support they could have gotten - They had Tales of as an Exclusive. They had Mistwalker with Sakaguchi behind them and games like Eternal Sonata,Star Ocean,The Last Remnant(still in the most wanted list for the PS3 today) and everything else as an exclusive.
THEY ALL didn't sell - Japanese people even started to hate Microsoft even more cause they needed to either wait or buy a console they don't need and want.

This is why most Japanese Developers turned their back on the 360 and favored the PS3 again.Especially Tales of got an insane boost in Japan after they changed back.
SquareEnix became irrelevant in this Gen and their only Developer Team(Team Nomura) isn't allowed to work as he wants to(PS3 Exclusive).
They destroyed with FF13 and even favor the 360 more with 13-2(they lowered the amount of FMVs cause the 360 version of 13 was so inferior to the PS3 Version) a lot of their good reputation.

Oh and yes - Japanese don't hate foreign tech. They love apple and the Iphone and stuff.
They just don't like to buy devices they don't need cause the stuff usually is on the system they prefer with the highest quality possible.
Even Monster Hunter Frontier(i know a port from an old PC Game) didn't help - They were angry it didn't get released for the PS3.And this won't change Next Gen cause at the end Sony really got everything back.If Microsoft is FORCING them AGAIN to wait or buy a device no one needs there they will be even more angry.

They will launch the Nextbox(lol 720) in Japan for the Cavia(i think they make those sidescroll spaceship shooters) games and all that stuff.
They need a system they can develop easy and cheap for.But anything else won't be worth the effort.
Even more Kinect heavy?Didn't know the Japanese suddenly got a bigger living room.

WTF?

NEGATIVE SALES!!!!

I dont know why you get involved in sales dicsussions, you come out with some bizarre statements.

But I'll play along.   let me see, there were 1m 360's in Japan mid 2009, now there are 1.6m.  So they added 60% to their install base... decline?

In any event you seem to be unable to seperate "console" from "brand" in your brain.

The xbox brand is now bigger than it has ever been EVERYWHERE on the globe including Japan.

You are quite full off it, you spend to much time looking at past sales instead of recent sales.

Plus what i said was right, the 360 did better in japan in it's early years, plus you interpreted the word decline wrong, if you actually read my post hard enough you would realise, that i meant the sales was declining which it is.
