Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kaboom: Nvidia Is Making Its Own Gaming System

Before today, Nvidia made parts to put inside gadgets other people build. Today, it has its own gaming device: a Tegra 4-powered handheld system with both an integrated controller andscreen.

Nvidia says the device, nicknamed "Project Shield," will pack a 10-hour battery life, audio quality on par with a Jambox, a console-quality controller (bumpers, triggers, analog sticks, and a d-pad), and of course it runs Android. No skin. In the back you'll find plenty of ports: HDMI, micro-USB, microSD, and audio-out.

But of course, that screen: a 5-inch, 720p display with touch capabilities too. The entire package looks to be about the size of an Xbox 360 controller, plus that screen popped out. This is a serious shot at not only Android gaming, but all mobile gaming, and even the likes of Wii U.

YES!!!! What games will it have. Im excited. Dont let me down Nvidia

i like the way it looks.

I can see maybe how it can do something in the mobile gaming market, but Wii U? Why is that even on there? Just because it has a touch screen? That doesn't make much sense. Also we are missing a few key things here... one of them being its price.

edit:  I just found this on the link.  "Why? The thing isn't just an Android GameBoy—it's a mobile set top box and computer, capable of playing 4k movies to a full 4k TV via HDMI, hopping around Facebook, multitasking with your music in the background, and pretty much everything else you'd want from a modern tablet or smartphone. It just happens to look like a big green x-treme gaming controller."

I don't really think the person writing this knows what he's talking about.  It looks like he thinks that a Wii U is just a Wii + tablet.

That controller shape... looks so flat, not really ergonomic... but then again, this is only a prototype.

I'm sure nVidia will try to catter the casual market that plays on their cellphone with this thing, not really console gamers or PC gamers.

Won't the touch screen get in the way if you plug it into the TV?

Tease.

I see this doing a little better than the N Gage.

Is this why all 3 are going the AMD Route? Nvidia busy with its' own device?

It has HDMI out and can connect to a TV so in theory it could do anything the Wii U can in terms of dual screen/touch and buttons etc.
