Okay, who read the title as "Windows 8 proving less popular than Vita"?

*raises hand*

Anywho, I'm a happy user of Windows 7 and see no reason to upgrade to 8.

I was fooled too... I agree with you that there is no reason for me to upgrade from 7. I'll wait for 9 on a new PC.

windows 8 for desktop is a nightmare dont get it for desktops

Explain why?

The internet tells us what to like and not like.  It has spoken.

*raises hand as well* :D

Windows 8 is not terrible, it's just grossly unnecessary to most people. The only reason I would upgrade is for the **** of it, and I don't do things for the **** of it. It's like getting rid of a comfortable, cozy mattress just to try out that new waterbed.

Its still selling well because I believe that stores can't sell Win 7 anymore. My gf bought a laptop for the holidays, apparantly Win 7 wasn't available and there was a ton of incentives and packins to get Win 8.

From what I see, its a bold direction away from what were used to. But im sure itll still generate a sizable amount of profit.

its either because he doesnt know how to use it or because he is too lazy to spend 5 minutes and set it ip to work just like windows 7 did.

The only real reasons to hate on windows 8 on a desktop are resistance to change and lazyness, both at the same time. There really arent any functional reasons as anything one did in windows 7 can be done on 8.

EXACTLY! So why upgrade?

At a certain point the quality of a system is so good(or people are completly confident with the quality)that they simply don't need a new system.
why wasting money for something you don't want or need or you can get for free(android/linux)?

There's really no reason to upgrade when Windows 7 still works fine.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

In terms of upgradng a desktop...the main resons I see are because you want to play with the latest and greatest technology including touch screen monitors, cloud storage and microsoft account syncing, Windows app store, install OS on a USB stick as well as many little benefits that Windows 8 offers over windows 7. (Boot, wake up time, added security).  Or maybe you're just bored and want to play with a new Windows interface and a desktop is all you got/can afford.

Or just maybe because you have a pirated version of windows XP, Vista or 7 and can install a legit copy of Windows 8 for 39.99 (14.99 if you know a trick or two).

Main attraction for me is the technology aspect...I like to play with gadgets and new things. Also the app store and building my Microsoft account ecosystem seems like a good idea considering everything is slowly converging together.

Um,  excuse me you do realize that the majorityof desktop owners know less about computers than fixing a sammich, right? That might have a lot to do with the unpopularity of windows 8.
