No, I'm not sure any Mario game will ever top SMB on the NES... Just look at NSMB; 2D Mario on a console with a much larger install base than Wii couldn't top the almighty SMB... I think MKWii will end up between 34-38m...

If Nintendo ever moves to mobile though, an Android/iOS Mario for $.99 would instantly outsell Super Mario Bros and probably exceed 100m in sales.

Mario's sales are pretty much unattainable by any game (except Wii Sports apparently). Frankly, it's a wonder Mario Kart Wii got this 'close'. It will end at 36-37 in the end.

Also, people saying Super Mario Bros. only got this high because of the bundling are underrating it, those bundles were replaced with Super Mario 2/3 bundles when those games came out, Turtles bundles, bundles woth some soccer game and there already were bundles with ROB and Duck Hunt-only during the same time. I'm sure I'm forgetting more. Anyway, Mario was a phenomenon back then, arguably bigger than CoD is now. Everyone who got this bundle did it because they wanted to play this game, I'd argue it would've done similar numbers if it were never bundled (assuming the NES would've been as successful).

How come Japan Wii Sports (know it wasn't bundled) and Mario Kart Wii numbers are so low?

I doubt MarioKart Wii will ever catch SMBros. The Wii is dead now. 7million on a dead system is too much. Another million or two, sure, but not that much.

I don't think Nintendo are going to release any more "Player's Choice" games, but still, it's the one Wii game that will keep selling for a while.

I honestly didn't know how well MKwii did until I came onto this site. I just assumed that it always probably did just as well as Brawl.
Color me impressed. I hope MK wii u will do even half as well.

I think it will overtake super mario bros. soon. Right now their is no denying that Mario Kart is the biggest gaming franchise at the moment(Yes it is bigger than 2D Mario, Pokemon, Call of Duty, and Grand theft Auto as of right now)
