Forums - Gaming Discussion - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Demo (Konami killed Metal Gear)

I think the biggest thing bothering the Metal Gear fans (myself included) isn't that the game isn't a "stealth espionage" game but that it looks NOTHING like Metal Gear at all.

I'm not a super big hack n slash fan so I don't know if i'll pick it up or if it'll even be any good, but I do know that the small amount of the game Kojima had done looked a ton more interesting than what Platinum has done with it.

I really enjoyed Vanquish but this game looks completely generic to me. The footage is a bit dated so I'm guessing it's changed a bit. It just doesn't have the "Metal Gear" feel to it. I definitely would have preffered the original version.

Edit: Grr double posted and It won't let me remove the code -_-

I'll get banned if I speak truth right now, I'll say this and never come back to this thread lol.
1. A Spin-Off title doesn't NOT have to represent the original work of a game series, doesn't even need to have the same characters. Also, unless you were not following the game, Never was this intended to be a title of the series nore did Kojima himself care for this title at first. This is a action game and actually funny thing is, did you play through Metal Gear Solid 2? Quite alot of the games Idea came from that.
2. How is this not a Metal Gear... Please, That's like saying Mario Tennis isn't Mario cause it isn't like the original mario, or Sonic Riders isn't Sonic because its not like the original series, or even Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII isn't Final Fantasy because its entirely different gameplay style from Final Fantasy VII.
3. From the beginning it was stated this isn't a title in the Solid series, if you didn't notice, the Series is actually Metal Gear, with Solid making itself a sub series under the Metal Gear Name as well as Ac!d, it is also a sub series under the title. It's like Persona and Devil Summoner, both Shin Megami Tensi, but Persona is it's own Sub series which is more known and more popular, while Devil Summoner is a less popular sub series. You can look at those games and see how different they are.
4. I suggest thinking over what you're making a thread for in the future. Making these style of threads, that seem to lack the research or knowledge on what is being spoken of will leave you alot of hate. Cause in my opinion it sounds like you basically just said "Anything that strays from the Metal Gear Solid Style gameplay isn't allowed to be Metal Gear."
The truth, Metal Gear I, Metal Gear II, are real Metal Gear Main titles, Solid is no more Metal Gear then Rising or Ac!d technically and they cannot be used as reasons the other cannot be Metal Gears. It's like using Mario Party to tell why Mario Kart isn't a Mario Game, and saying because Mario Kart plays more like racing games qnd not like Mario Party, yet Mario Party and Mario Kart are both Sub series of a series of Mario games, damn you can flip the script and say Mario Party ain't Mario and use Mario Kart as reference and it wouldn't make sense.
Hope you understand that. if not. Then I don't know, would be sad.

Metal Gear 1-2 etc (Side scrollers)
Metal Gear SOLID 1-4, Peace Walker, Ground Zero (Stealth mostly style gameplay)
Metal Gear AC!D 1-2 (Tactical RPG style gameplay)
Metal Gear RISING (Action style gameplay)
every sub series has significant changes to the gameplay, the title is called Metal Gear Rising for a reason, Kojima even explained the reason it had solid removed feom the name is because it's not solid but it's own game in the Metal Gear Story

Actually I thought the demo was pretty awesome

I just pre ordered the collectors edition yesterday

It's a spin-off. Every big franchise have spin-offs. Card games, rhythm games. even browser games.
Some rock most suck, but they have no relation to the main series.

Hack&slash fans will be interested in MGR and so will the die hard MG fan (and I'm 2 for 2).

The original version was going nowhere. It was just a bunch of ideas weren't coming together.

Killed? everyone knew from day 1 that this was a spin-off.

Agree with what Teflon is saying, this game never pretended to be Metal Gear Solid, it is Metal Gear Rising. I look at it the same way as Final Fantasy, there are loads of main games, which are RPGs, and there are loads of spin offs that branch into other genres, that are not RPGs, or even Advent Children, which was a film, not even a game.

This is the same thing, Metal Gear is a franchise, and I think for a franchise to continue to be successful you need to innovate the style of the material, and theres nothing wrong with a bit of diversity.

That being said however, I haven't played the demo. Its made by Platinum Games, arguably one of the best developers in the world. They were the best developers to come from Capcom Japan, and they created the greatest action game to date, Bayonetta. I have no doubt the action in this game will be electrifying, but the level of storytelling in this Metal Gear game looks pretty bad.

The story is being handled by Kojima's team.

Kojima looked for outside help because his own team can't make action games to save their lives.

The high-paced frenetic gameplay has forced Kojima's team to be more succinct in their storytelling.

There is no part of this development that isn't for the better.

Surely this is a joke thread???
