I would be bitterly disappointed to be honest. I reckon the 360 will be a console that continues to be popular long after it's natural 'life' is over though - whether the hardware will live on long enough to allow for this is another question. I hope Xbox Live will be around as long as people are willing to pay for it

I would be even more disappointed if your current downloaded XBLA content is not easily transferrable to Nextbox.

I'm sure it could, but its up to Microsoft. The question is, how long will they keep selling it?

Maybe they will keep it around in US but not the rest of the world. and if MS still wants to i doubt the retailers would

Some people would commit suicide ...no names.

Some won't care.

For me it would be a shame but I won't loose any sleep.

Are you kidding? or do you just have no clue what your talking about?

Original xbox was a mess, 360 was a success. It's like saying, hey I don't want all that extra money, Put it in a blender.

All you have to do is look at MS's history and you'll know whats going to happen. Once what they think is their new bread winner they'll drop it. Just like xbox. Get ready.

As you are an expert, can you explain the history to me in detail. ( History being one console )

History being the whole company.

Im sure someone somewhere in the world may shred a small tear.

Who is to say there won't be a two tier situation when Nextbox comes out? I remember the NES continuing to have a significant following long after the Megadrive/Snes came out. Also the PS2 kept soldiering on under people's TVs, long after it should have been long gone.

I seem to remember VHS players still being sold a couple of years after DVD came out. There may be a significant number of people who say "this is good enough for me, for now".

I think it's Xbox Live that makes the difference here, there's a lot of people on there - many of whom are casual and not the types to adopt new technology quickly. As long as there are enough subscribers to XBL, why would Microsoft cease to support it?

I feel this gen may be slightly different from the earlier generations. Obsessive gamers, rich folks and graphic-whores will grab the Nextbox immediately, while another type of gamer (busy family men, retro gamers, casual gamers and skint folk) may well continue nattering on Xbox Live for another couple of years after Nextbox's release.

I can see 360s continuing to be manufactured and sold for a while longer than we are used to consoles surviving (I know they already have, but I mean even longer - even after the release of Nextbox)...

*awaits bitter, sneering sarcasm and analogies regarding things being dropped*

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

Karl Pilkington.

I love my 360 so much I gave it to a charity. But I bet you didn't know Bill Gates refuses to play any 360 or original XBOX. Weird huh?
