Obama can only claim to be socialist (I don't know where you lot gets this claim from, he's a freaking liberal!), if he creates a NHS style health care service for everyone and starts to subsidise higher education.

But anyway, you lot may not like it, but you have to raise taxes for everyone, especially the rich. I say a maximum of 50% on earnings over a million dollars (up from apparently 40%). The Obama administration must also fix any tax loopholes and punish any tax avoiders/ frauders. America can't afford any more tax cuts, she is falling apart at the seams.

End the war in Afghanistan and hand over any foreign military base to the country it's in (that should save a few billion).

pretty much end what Bush did in his 8 years

Higher education is already subsidized for public Colleges/Universities.

New tax code: Flat tax. One page. Not thousands. No loopholes, just one rate for everyone. I can think of nothing more fair.

It may be legal, but it shouldn't be. Especially for a company like Apple that is richer than some European countries! Government sets the taxes, and people and companies should pay the amount set for their wealth bracket. And yet America wonders why it's in so much debt, it's let too much slide by.

I'm not rich. But raising taxes on the rich is not right at all. I went through turbo tax and was looking at old tax forms. I made $25,000 when I was 21 years old and that was the most I made in a years time. The second highest was in 2009 when I made $18,000... Funny thing is I paid like 2% in taxes one year and 0% in taxes another. I got about $1,000 dollars back... Don't get me wrong I'm glad I got me a ps3... I mean that tax return but I could have easily lived without it and wouldn't have minded if I didn't get it. I don't understand why my money should go to a company because I want their product should go directly back to me because they have to pay so much more in taxes. Basically, I'm getting the service/product for less than the price

it's still among the most expensive higher education in the world ($30000 a year and up!). But, I would of said free HE, but USA can't afford it currently.

How much is this "flat tax"?

It is that time again. End of the year tax decisions. Do we keep Bush (prick) era tax cuts or get rid of them? What about other tax issues?

I am poor, but I do not care. 200-500 extra dollars a year matters little. Just save the country some money and bury it already. One less thing we have to thank the Charismstic Bush for.

Plus, Richardhut....may know more about this, but this year Welfare was cut. Adults do not get free dental anymore and there are co-pays for prescriptions and medical visits. Seems we are pushing away from Obamas supposed socialistic America. Should save us Multi- billions as well!

I am currently working now and losing stuff. I will likely lose medicaid and foodstamps is out.  Piecing stuff together now and focusing on surviving.  Along the way, play some boardgames.  Realizing a lot sucks, but try to make the best of it.

As far as Obama goes, he is hardly a socialist.  He ends up being a political pragmatist who seems to exist to cause the GOP to go extinct.   And I would say that everyone is going to take a hit here.  The fiscal cliff will be going over, because congress can't agree on anything.  Look for the GOP to jettison Boehner, thinking their only problem is leadership.

I don't know where you got that 30,000 a year figure. My wife is paying 15,000 a year and is an out of state resident. My best friend is paying 8,000 a year being in state. Also, that doesn't include government financial aid. I'm paying 5k a year at a private university because of financial aid

The public university I went to was super cheap. The state also offered scholarships with pretty low requirements. I paid less than 10k for school and my degree. This includes summer classes, books, etc. during my 4 years. I don't buy that college is too expensive.

That was supposed to be one for one of the best universities in your country like Harvard or MIT. Other's I expected to be cheaper.

I went tomy college for 2 years. How much did I pay? 0 dollars. I got 6k in grants and the school was only like 3-4k for tuition and books. That means I got an extra 4-6k from the government. My next two years will be at Marquette University. I will only pay 2.5k out of pocket for tution this semester so 5k a year. So basically 10k for the next two years... but I got that 4-6k from the previous 2 years which was extra. So, 4-6k out of pocket for tuition for my degree (this does not include books for the next 2 years). not expensive at all

Marquette is ranked 80th, which is good considering the thousands of schools there are, and tuition is 33k a year... however, with financial aid I will basically only pay 10k out of pocket for my degree. Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, (the IV league schools) are extremely difficult to get into and there is a saying "if you are accepted they will pay for your education." I was actually invited to apply to Columbia but New York is extremely expensive. Even if I took out loans I doubt I'd be able to pay for it. It's also extremely far. Also, I need to stay in Illinois for legal reasons (but that's honestly my choice. I could leave if I wanted to I'd just lose something I don't want too)

The old saying "You get what you pay for" comes to mind, but higher education is subsidized as a result of prison costing upwards of 50k per inmate per year. (There is a declination of crime the higher the education).

How much is fair for a flat tax? I'd argue the middle of the road tax rates on income should be applied across the board (including stocks). I think it's around 20%.
