Hmm I may be interested, I'm actually going to school for Game Art at the moment so this could be an interesting opportunity

...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.

"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"

The last two times I got involved in a fangame, they went nowhere. If you can possibly get some basic design running and show us, I'll probably offer to help.

Messing around with fan games or making a game as a community is fun, I was involved to a small degree with the Mushroom Kingdom Fusion community a few years back, even messed around on game maker and laid out a few levels (which I'll just go a head and link here.)  Go for it, but don't ever think it'll ever actually get completed, lol.

Good luck!

I saw RPG Maker on Steam the other day and immediately added it to my wishlist. I'd really like to take a crack at it myself, but it's rather daunting.

Anyway, best of luck with your game :)

Actually I'll post a few screenshots of the game I'm working on at the moment, I'll edit this post in a sec

The second screenshot seems a little empty, since I haven't populated the village yet, but I'm almost ready to release a demo which will have between 20-30 minutes of gameplay (Well, with cutscenes too... I'm VERY cinematic when it comes to making games, my cutscenes can last AGES)

NICE work keep it up, it looks pretty damn good IMO!

So as some of you know RPG Maker VX Ace is now on steam (The same engine used to make To the Moon etc). i was thinking of buying it as i messed around with some of the older RPG makers on PC a long long time ago. I even had alot of a game made called 'The Quest for Truth'.

Well if i was to buy it i was going to start working on the quest for truth again but i suck at making art and music, and my spelling sucks big time.

So i was wondering if i was to buy the program would anyone here be willing to join my little studio i plan on making?. I couldnt pay you or that until we sell our first game on steam (If we even get on steam lulz xD). But whatever we make we can split it the same with whoever is in the company (If it takes off that is).

Pretty much im looking for someone that can draw, someone that can help with story, someone that can spell check (The will be lots of this lulz xD) and someone that can make music. Also someone that could make anime or cgi would be great too! (If where going to do this might as well go all out with our first game :D) .

Anyway would anyone be up for this?.

Well I could help out with story or gameplay elements.  I'm not really a JRPG guy but I'm knowledgable about what people think.  If you need help come to me.  i don't need to get paid though.

hey Zero129
Dont worry about a**holes who talk smack, When this starts worst thing that can happen is experience! If it does succeed we will(who ever involved ) look at this and say LOOK AT ME NOW!

Well talk about shooting down someones dream -_- .

Dont waste any time coming up with names or characters so you admit they take time?.

Time, yes. Hard work? No. It's the fun part.

are you saying being a director is not a job cos thats the vibe im getting from this post?

It is but you need to already have experience of what's possible and what the priorities should be. Being a project manager and ordering people with art/music/programming talent around is worthless on a thing like this. You need to be also doing one of those three, likely the third.

Isnt the director the one who comes up with the idea?, who says how things should act? how they should play out? what way something should go etc etc?.

^

Also wouldnt i be the one bringing them people together to work on something they otherwise might of not? am i not the one giving them the chance to come to together and work on something that could make us money? im not saying it will, but otherwise they would of never worked together anyways. So Will they not be working off my idea? my story etc etc??.

No.  Ideas are super cheap. Anyone can come up with something awesome in game or story on the spot. You are contributing nothing if you are just a director, and people will not appreciate it if that's all you do. The project is certain to fail, based on a long track record of fan projects I could name.

Also please discard the idea that you could possibly make money from a first project, especially one using RPG Maker. The game you mentioned succeeeded because it did something original, it had very talented writers and artists, and above all great marketing. I saw interviews and demos for it everywhere. I agree with tbone51, experience should be the main goal - but not experience of getting what you want done; experience of what can't be done and how people suck.

So tell me how is The job of a director reasy again?, if something fails who gets blamed?

You. No one said this was fair.

I'm really not trying to say, "don't do it". I'm saying, show you CAN do it. Get a placeholder demo, learn art or coding for yourself, and then advertise.

Art guy who volunteered, I would advise you to stay the hell away from putting in your time until he has such a demo.

Now, I do have ability I can contribute. I can write well, and by that I mean not 'story idea' but longform writing. Once you have a demo, if you would like, I will take a story idea such that you have and write the actual text and dialogue you will need.
