That seems like an arbitrary restriction, especially considering the PS family has just as many remakes and collections as the DS. Plus, most of the remakes (especially of NES games) are considerably enhanced for their PS/PS2/GBA/DS releases.

I mean, if you can play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI on either console, why shouldn't those count for more than whatever much lesser RPGs may have been made for the systems?

Chrono Trigger and FFVI are B/C, not actual RPGs on the PS2 so they cant be counted at all imo.

Also there is no FFVI on NDS unless you mean b/c like the PS2 PS1 Anthology which I still dont count.

Chrono Trigger is fair game though since it IS on the NDS.

Edit: Remakes and Ports are fine imo.

I was counting the GBA remake, because platformmaster brought up backwards compatibility in an earlier post as a way that PS2 had Chrono Trigger.

I'd go for Ps2 partly because i've never seen the need to buy and play the DS. Also, I don't like playing handhelds so my vote will be 'biased'?
They do both have a pretty awesome catalogue though. It's just that nothing could beat playing Shadow Hearts, Xenosaga, FFX, DQVIII... as far as I'm concerned.

PS2 no doubt. you should add need for speed underground, GoW 2 and Vice city to that list

PlayStation 2 without question. The NDS has some fantastic games, but I don't think it comes even close.

ok and PS2 has gran Turismo, Burnout, Jak, Ratchet, Sly, Team ICO games, God of War, Tony Hawk (when it was cool), Socom (again when it was awesome), DMC, and like a gazillion others.

DS also has a gazzillion other games. But I don't even have to mention that, because Pokemon > all those games you mentioned combined... Because it's freaking Pokemon!

in what world are you living in? pokemon better than all those? seriously?

Alright, now that's out of the way, what of remakes and compilations? Mega Man X Collection & Mega Man Zero Collection, etc.?


Remakes, Ports and Compilations should be fine (i.e. branded as "Playstation 2" or "Nintendo DS"). B/C shouldnt though.

If you dont include them, you'll lose like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy remakes which are two major series on the NDS. I cant think of a PS2 game that was a remake unless someone can remind me? (mostly speaking about RPGs, not that familiar with other genres on the PS2 ;p).

now this is not to say we shouldn't, but should HD collections be mentioned as games in the PS3 library if we're discussing it vs. other consoles?  I've hesitated to do so when comparing it to 360 or Wii but maybe it is fair.

I'm trying to have only one representative game per franchise, otherwise the list would be full of sequels

 

good idea, anyways looked at the list again and no need for speed, and underground was just freaking awesome! i think you should add it to the list
