Dear god, this again? First off, what people were predicting on random internet forums does not matter. Like, at all. The people at WWS weren't sitting around going, "but they said it would do 3M by the end of the year on gamrConnect ... ." Second, anyone saying this was supposed to be a "big holiday title" are either fooling themselves or they're inflating expectations so they claim those lofty expectations weren't met. No one at WWS thought this was going to be the next Uncharted.
Before it even launched, I said that the purpose of this game was to build brand recognition for the series and to eventually be a base game for PS+. Not to be a huge individual sales machine. It's there to fill a need, to be Sony's party-type game. Not every investment should be judged solely on its own numbers. In business, sometimes you spend money on things to improve the whole of your production, not just to register an immediate return.
Sony is probably going to try to get this game into people's hands any way they can. PS+, giving it away with bundles, anything that will grow the player base, which will grow the franchise with regards to future installments.
I know there are some sad human beings out there who desperately want this series to die but, unfortunately for them, it's probably here to stay.
