They need to save MarioKart to build up some hype a year or two from now. NSMB is almost as big a title and will carry it till E3 when we see something exciting.

Hopefully... I think so, yes. Cool announcements, but no releases before next holidays. I just don't understand this consensus of a "launch in november, release nothing until next november" strategy. Shouldn't they get people on board as quickly as possible? Think about 3rd parties - if they're still undecided now, it's basically too late. A console generation lasts 5 years, a blockbuster takes 2 years minimum. So, if 3rd parties are to "wait & see" how well Nintendo does in winter 2013/14 - it's too late! Their games would be finished winter 2015/16, the platform would be dead by then (or at least as dead for 3rd parties as Wii was).

Regarding NSMB(U): It's big, true. But it isn't as irresistable as Mario Kart is. People can never get enough of Mario Kart, they want new courses, it has endless replay value, it's for everyone. With NSMB people start feeling they're getting more of the same (hell, *I* am not really excited for NSMBU, because it doesn't have this appeal of a 'big adventure').

Where exactly do you get the notion that there is nothing until November? As I understand it, something along the lines of 50 games through this coming March and some known about beyond that date as well

wii u needs wii u sports or wii u fit without those kind of games it will end with gamecube like sales

I don't understand why Nintendo never learn from past experiences. Looks like they don't intend to release anything significant before winter 2013. Who's going to buy the system in the next 12 months? Even the hardcore Nintendo fans (like me) will hold off.

Why can't they release something big in, like, march? Big = 3DMario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, Paper Mario, F-Zero, Starfox, Yoshi, something new! I bought Wii when Mario Galaxy came out, looks like it's going to be the same pattern. How is it smart not to build momentum in a system's first year? I don't get it.

Imagine Wii U launching with Mario Kart. o_O

On topic, unless Nintendo do something surprising, I don't think it will sell according to their expectations, sadly. The upside is that there will be a price drop soon.

Perhaps this time around they WANT you to buy 3rd party games.so that WiiU gets better 3rd party support.

If you are a wii only owner from last gen there is plenty of games to keep you satisfied.

Now I don't know if you have the other consoles or not, but the words you used are a prime example why 3rd party games don't sell well on Nintendo consoles. There is more to gaming than Nintendo. Nintendo fans can't have it both ways. You can't complain about 3rd party support and at the same time not buy the ones that have come out on WiiU.

I was referring to first party titles, there's no heavyweight to be released before next holidays. Nintendo is bringing Game & Wario, Pikmin 3 and WiiFitU. Stuff they announce at E3 won't be released before fall.

Absolutely, I'm the worst. Today I buy Nintendo's big games, that's it. BUT I would support third party games if there were any of interest! I'd get Street Fighter, I'd get Final Fantasy, maybe I'd get GTA. But those games never make it to Nintendo's consoles. What should I do, buy a game I don't care for to "support 3rd parties" in general? I don't play violent games. Cross out AC3, ME3, NG3, Aliens, ZombiU.

What's weird is that I used to play a ton of 3rd party games on the NES and SNES. Mega Man, Snake Rattle & Roll, Marble Madness, Kickle Cubickle, Faxanadu, Castlevania, Secret of Mana, Jurassic Park, Battle of Olympus, Maniac Mansion, R-Type, Axelay, ... at some point it stopped, and I don't know why.

LOL

Street Fighter, Final Fantasy and GTA are all violent games. GTA is probably more violent than all the ones you had crossed out.

Even some of the NES and SNES games you mentioned are violent, After all you are killing enemies.

Yeah I know about GTA, that's why I said maybe. Haven't played a GTA since the original.

The others - Street Fighter is cartoon, I've played it for 20 years. Final Fantasy "violence" is not what I mean. It's not that hard to understand, is it? Jumping on a Koopa's head is not the same as gory dismemberment. I don't want to play war, to be a marine, blood all over the screen, cruelty.

In the NES / SNES days, the action was abstract. R-Type never felt violent to me.

Wow the Wii was a beast in those first 5 weeks, no way the Wii U will match that. I voted no for the 5.5m goal Nintendo have set. I reckon 3-4m is more likely.

i put no right now, over all it's hard to see it selling like the Wii,,the mainstream media buzz for the Wii was mighty, every console needs a bit of that to kick on
