I haven't played any of those games. But based on their demos, I would have to say The Walking Dead.

You haven't played any of them?  What have you played this year?

Mainly older online games. This year, Borderlands 2 and a bit of Halo 4. Nothing else has been worthy of my hard-earned money or time.

I'm not on here to argue what deserved to be nominated but I as well as many others will disagree. This has been the most conroversial nominations on VGA that I can think of.

True, but that's partially just because it's the first time downloadable games have been nominated, but I'm glad to see that's finally been corrected.  Big blockbusters aren't the only things that should be able to win GotY.  It should simply be up to what that pannel thinks are the best games of the year regardless of their budget or if they're retail titles or downloadable.  It's not "60 dollar game of the year" it's simply "game of the year" and while Journey may only last a couple hours it's priced appropriately, experiments with interesting multiplayer and has some unforgettable experiences during those 3 hours.  The Walking Dead series was the only game to really make me care about a character this year, and brought me back into a genre I usually ignore.  Both are fantastic games, best of luck to both of them.

...

from the list, mass effect 3. its the best game by far.

Did you not get hitman or Sony Allstars?  You seemed to really be looking forward to hitman at least?

I haven't finished The Walking Dead just yet.  I'm on the 3rd episode.  They haven't brought the 5th episode yet have they?

Hitman is a letdown. It's not worth me buying at full price. I'll get it from the bargain bin, or if it's offered on PSN+. I've explained my feelings of Hitman here.

I need to play PABR before I decide to buy it. Gameplay videos are informative and all, but you need to get the 'feel' of a game to know if it's right for you, especially for a fast-paced fighter. I don't know if I like the idea of not having a damage meter.

I'm very pleased to see Journey and The Walking Dead on that list and that it's not just another shooter festival, though I would like to see Borderlands 2 receive a nod. The idea that a game has to be a big budget, heavily marketed franchise installment to win GotY bothers me. Nice to see a major publication reject that philosophy.

Of the 3 games I've played on this list, Assassin's Creed III is the only one I enjoyed. Mass Effect 3 is a disappointment, and Dishonored is overrated.
