Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony patents hybrid DualShock/Move controller

OMFG....... if that's a standard controller then I'm not buying the next PS, I will not fucking use that.

Would be cool if they could somehow not make the balls so intrusive or make them detachable. It would be great if we could screw on/off the balls. That would be awesome. You would essentially enable every PS3 console with MOVE. I would imagine many more developers would be encouraged to implement motion controls as a result. It would be good to see how more developers start to use motion controls in some creative ways.

this thing looks so stupid

Make those balls smaller or something. Also will it be comfortable to hold straight-down-handles of the controllers while using as dualshock?

That's just a mock up, it doesn't represent the finished product.  All patents sketches are like that.  Since it's potentially out in the public eye, they make it as generic as possible.  You can only judge the concept when you look at anything like this.

Well this is just a prototype so hopefully if they go this route they will make an improved version of this.  I can't possibly see the balls being in the final design, but who knows lol

This is smart and looks interesting to use, I hope they improve the looks though.

Isn't this an old patent? I remember seeing this or something similar

could be very interesting actually. Best of both worlds controller

The Break-Away controller we've heard about  and seen a video of a long time ago... got updated. That's it.

I've been saying this was a good idea for ages. Keeps the dualshock form factor that we've all gotten used to, while adding an excellent motion solution.

4 ≈ One

This is what move should have been in the first place. Analogs on the move wands would have opened up numerous gameplay possibilities.

Somebody forgot about the shoulder buttons.

Persumably the buttons near the middle would take their place.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

Are people actually judging this based on patent art??

It would be great to have this even without using it for motion controls. Not having to keep your hands in one position all the time is a plus. Playing with a wiimote + nunchuck is a lot more comfortable in some games.
And an analog stick on each motion controller is even better.

The only downside I see of this design is that it kills my primary use case for the move which is using it as a bat in MLB The Show. That design just doesn't look like it will work for that but maybe I'm wrong.
