Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have you had to show your tastes because people treat you like a fanboy?

I know what you mean, I used to feel the same way, and my post history didn't do me any favours either. Since then I've buried the hatchet, decided to be honest, lighthearted and admit when I'm wrong. I don't care if somebody says I have an agenda or takes my posts too seriously these days, most people who accuse you of having an agenda have one themselves.

Around the Network

Jay just gets annoyed to easily. Regardless yes I've been accused of being a fanboy on all sides and I like it that way. I'd prefer someone be confused about what I say rather than me be predictable.

Fact-On this site if you like an exclusive game you are a fanboy. If you have an avatar of an exclusive title you are a fanboy. If you don't agree with the hype of an exclusive you are a fanboy. If you have a different opinion about an exclusive that is god for bid not the greatest thing in the world you are a fanboy. This list goes on. No matter what you say or do you will most likely be called a fanboy. It gets old but that is how people think. Currently people look at me as a Microsoft fanboy which is far from the truth but if that is what people want to think then so be it.

Hmm, interesting question.

I think my signature pretty much sums up my allegiance in terms of gaming. I often wonder if if this puts people off talking to me who are maybe new to the site or have never interacted with me before, or would lead to them to believe I have an agenda before I've actually said anything.

But you know, it really doesn't bother me. Fact of the matter is: I do spend the vast majority of my time gaming on Sony consoles through choice, but I also enjoy a significant amount of time gaming either on PC or Nintendo home consoles. Two of my favourite games of all time were Nintendo first-party offerings; a vast amount are PC-only games.

If people wish to label me as a fanboy, to my face or behind my back, or spend their time searching for some hidden agenda I'm trying to push then that's their choice. The validity of their belief may be vastly removed from reality, but I'm not going to lose any sleep from them choosing to follow it. There's probably some element of truth in there anyway despite my best efforts to remain 'neutral'.

Also, what Sales said. As much as it pains me to agree with him twice in two threads (BECAUSE HE'S AN XBAWKS FANB... just kidding :P), it's the internet. If I ever feel like I'm getting too involved, I just shut my laptop down and walk away. No biggie. It's never gotten to that stage, but I know the option is there if I need it.

If you are the person who starts an opinionated thread, then you'll naturally become the center of attention. If you make a lot of these threads on a frequent basis, then this effect will only increase. If you aggravate people in the process, you'll soon have built a negative reputation for yourself. Once you've done that, you can't get rid of it from one day to the other, even if you decide to drastically improve yourself. It's going to be a slow process, but if you work on yourself and people notice that you try, they'll eventually change their opinion on you.

It was about half a year ago when you made a few of those NSMB2 and PSABR threads (among others) in quick succession. You managed to piss off Nintendo and Sony fans alike, so essentially the vast majority of the active community. You dug yourself quite a deep hole.

I wish someone else than me could stick up for me and tell you that people getting aggravated because they can't handle an honest, contrary opinion is not my fault and never should be, yet for some reason nobody ever really challenges what you say about me, they just take it for cash.

And I think that's part of the problem, when people come together and tell each other: "this or that person is ___", and don't take the time to challenge those accusations.

If people are aggravated because I have a controversial opinion on a topic, that is their fault. Forums are made to discuss things that actually matter to us, and controversial topics always have been grey zones where some truth lies on both camps. It's equally true for the PASBR thread I made, as it was for the NSMB2 thread.

And not to say that some were pretty jealous of the activity those threads were garnering. That's not my fault.

Not really i'm not much of a fanboy at all.
