Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The State of the Wii U, Just Three Days In - Most controversial thing Nintendo has ever done?

Have only played Nintendo Land and NSMB U so far. Spent most of the day playing with its features. I just want to say that bot games required an update. Both times, I opted to skip it and both times, the update downloaded in the background while I played the games.

After they downloaded, how did it install? Were you prompted or notified in any way?

The battery life of the controller, how does it compare to Playstation? On Playstation I always use my controller with a wire because I'm paranoid about the batteries running out (since I heard you can't change them) so I have no idea how long the battery time is on the PS controller.

i wouldn't worry about that, they'll last 3-5 years depending how butch you are slimebeast,

yeah i never considered how long the WiiU gamepad might last say if you were playing a full game on it,but i never had a problem with wired controllers anyway really as long as the wire was long enough,i wouldn't mind the gamepad plugged in if i was playing a game on it liek mario or whatever

The bad sound awful, but I'm still getting it. How could I say no to a free console.

Super great read. I'm sure Wii U will prove to be a great console.

for me, my playstation remotes last 20-24hrs.

also the red light on them starts blinking when its about to die. (like 30 min-1 hr left of battery)

"The 2GB Trine 2 required a 17-minute installation."

How does MGS4 compared? That's probably the game with the longest installation time I've ever experienced.

Did the same thing with Black Ops 2.  Second time I played it, I had to do the install manually.  Sucks.

Well, I guess its kinda setup so you wont' forget.

I'm not sure which I like better. The PS3 would force the install on me as I started the game. On one hand, it makes sense as the patch likely fixes important stuff. On the other hand, I wanted to play right then. The WiiU allows you to download while you go ahead and play. But once you're done, you'd have to manually initiate the install or be forced to see it install when you played at some other time. This way at least doesn't make you watch the download, but you'd think it would prompt you when you went to shut down the game or maybe mid-game with a notification that it was ready.

I really think Nintendo needs people who speak up without fear of managment reprisal. The Japanese mantra being thrown over the company has the negative impact of not questioning management decisions when they are becoming more and more away from modern UI trends and OS improvements. This is not just in reference to this topic, but to many other things I've noticed as I've played with the system.
