Forums - Sony Discussion - Why don't certain Ps3 games (Infamous series) sell good?

I will never know why Infamous 2 didn't sell better personally I enjoyed it more than GTA4 and the same thing happen to Darksiders, great game mediocre sales.

I agree completley. I'm hoping Darksiders 2 gets some good holiday sales (one of my favorite games)

As for all the responses I'm getting, thanks for everyone's input. This thought just came to me: do you think maybe Infamous 2 has slowed down considerably due to it being free for all playstation plus users???

A lot of it has to do with the market. Sony has a lot of games that are just not popular to the mass market because of how it is played or looks. InFamous is a good/average game but beyond that it isn't something that is going to be great or amazing. Sony had plenty of games this generation to have a chance of hitting the mass market and only one succeeded which would be the Uncharted series. Why is because of how good of a job they did. Casuals and hardcore players can pick up this game whether you like story/cinimatics or gameplay/shooting. Get rid of your opinion about InFamous. Can you see someone who doesn't play games that much playing it? That is the question. Remember your opinion is only just that.

InFamous is not an average game and the quality is immense. It is setting standards for what a super hero game should be like outside of Batman Arkham City which takes its cues from Assassins Creed. InFamous is riding off of its own mechanics. If Sony picked up the marketing Cole Macgrath would be huge. Not that many people that I know have ever played InFamous and those whom I've let borrow my InFamous 2 game love cole. Again, you don't have to like anything that Sony does or makes, but the fact of the matter is you know Sony is keeping cole around because there is something about InFamous that is just awesome. IGN, themselves had to do a speculation of the ending of part two because the end of the game kept them wondering.

I said average/good.  I own both so no need to try and sell me on the game.  I'd say InFamous deserves a solid 8.5 and the second one an 8.0.  While this is good, there is other games in the same genre that is better and targets the mass market better which is what I was saying.

EDIT:  In fact I was very close with my scores.  InFamous metacritic is an 85 and InFamous 2 is an 83

Your rating is similar to mine. Id give the first an 8 and second a 9. But are you seriously considering your 8 to be average? And people blame the critics.. 5 is average/mediocre, 6 is decent, 7 is plain good, 8 is great, 9 pretty much incredible. Maybe thats just me.

No I agree with you about the review system.  The review system is pretty bad.  They don't really use the whole scale.  By using your scale I'd probably rank Infamous as a 7.8 and infamous 2 a 7.3. It's hard to review games though in many ways because as the generation goes on reviews start getting harsher and harsher although they are better than games that came out before it. I don't really think there is a way to fix the review system.

Cause a lot of us got the first one free because of the psn hack and then thought: meh
So we didn't bought the second one..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Infamous just doesn't interest me. The world, the characters, even the gameplay; nothing really pulls me in. I downloaded 2 recently as I'm a PS Plus member and I haven't played past the 1st 2 hours. The gameplay is easy tp jump in and play but I just don't find it thrilling *shrungs*

I hope sucker punch move onto something else...

It's a bit odd that a series so critically acclaimed as the Infamous series has not sold up to the same standard of the games. I realize that quality doesn't equal sales, but I thought Sony actually did a good job with marketing Infamous 1/2 to the mainstream.

The first game is at 2.3 million, while the superior second game is just at a little above 1 million.

While games such as prototype outsell it. A little odd.

Thoughts?

PS PLUS gave for free Infamous 2 some months after the game launched.  Also after a couple of months after Infamous 2 launch, Sony bought the developer Sucker punch.

So, if you take that into consideration, maybe Sony earned a lot of money from PS subscriptions because of the game, making it a complete success, and that is why they bough the developer.   Or  the sales here are way off and in reality it sold a lot more like 3M and that is why Sony bought Sucker Punch.  Or a mix of both.

You dont buy a developer if it does not make you earn money.

EDIT: Also PSN sales should be huge :)

Ps3 owners don't like to play games, they like to argue about graphics instead, also Ps3 has no games

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

One word...Advertising. Sony lacks it in the US

i bought infamous when it was £20 and i thought it was pretty good myself the action platforming good/evil sides these games are fun when you are powered up and know what you are doing,i would ahve bought inafamous 2 for the same price as the first but joined plus in the end and it was available, haven't played it yet but bought the infamous festival of blood in the halloween sale,so they got money from me but infamous 2 lost it's retail buy

here is the comparison graph from vgc just for the lulz for both games,of course with download and plus the true number who might have played or paid isn't shown by retail units anymore

Definitely....so true. Especially when the most exclusives since 2008 have been coming to the PS3.

I'm starting to think Sony's marketing really does suck. Before it was just deluded fanboys screaming about lack of commercial appeal but now it's become a trend.

Infamous is easily one of the geater games this gen, infamous 2 blows even that away. Killzone franchise was supposedly goinv to be Sony's "flagship" series to push PS3 sales? The fuckin killzone series had no sailes, forget flagship...it was jack sparrow in a dingy. Or whatever you call those lil boats.

The marketing team I guess, unless someone can point out anything we've missed.
