Forums - General Discussion - What's the earliest memory of your life that you remember?

I think 4. Just remember sitting with family, spending time with my brother, waking up at night and going to my parents' room, throwing stones at lizards and being fascinated by an insect, and playing football with some locals.

I want to ask this because the earliest memory I can think of is the first thing in my life that I believe happened first. If that makes any sense. Anyway I remember seeing nothing but black but then one of those old black and white movie countdowns came up. It started at 5 and went to 1, then popped up a building near my grandmother's house only it's in black and white too. Then everything cuts to black and pops up room full of people still in black and white. But I'm on the ground looking up. From that I know at that time I was a baby, but then everything starts to cut off to black and random everts start popping up. And start showing some color, the when all of this ends, I wake up in my room when I was a kid and have no idea what anything is. That was a weird time, but I want to know was what is everyone's else's earliest memory? And was it just as strange or stranger than mine?

The black and white/color of the memory is from which hemisphere of the brain contains the memory. I'm guessing most of your earliest memories are in your left, analytical side since some people who are only born with the left hemisphere usually cannot see color. And actually you may want see a specialist about that because it may mean you have some damage to the part of the brain that handles the communication between the two hemispheres. (Which may mean but it is better safe than sorry.)

My earliest memory is when I was one, I know that because my sister want  born yet. For some reason my partents went outside while I was playing with my toys. I remember the dirty orange carpet of the room. I decided that I was hunger so I crawled out to the kitchen. A feet down the hall, I seen the cookie jar on the top shelf. So I pulled out the drawers and started to climb on top of the sink. And started to scale the shelves on the wall. It was evening because the sun comming into through the window was a deep orange. My mom caught me before I got to the top.

Some of you are making me feel so old LOL. OMG, Tomb Raider III!??! I can remember playing that on my Celeron 400MHZ in my teens.........

My earliest memory is sitting inside a cradle looking up and I was probably very young. I could see a few family members in blurry details, but mainly I just remember my uncle. He might have been play smacking me or something for all I know , that might've helped my remembering... he and a lot of the boys in my family think that sort of picking on people is funny.

Someone mentioned Super Mario which is one of my other earliest gamer memory. I was 4 and I remember the very first time I played. I was addicted from day 1. Not having a penis, this was unacceptable for a very long time so they tried to get me to play Sesame Street on NES or barbies instead. They did tell me way later though I was the one responsible for finding the free man (what we called '1-ups') before the very first hole because I kept struggling to jump over it... that felt very redeeming.

The other time I remember the most is when my cousin, of almost the same age (probably 3), we were sitting in the grass and he was trying to set a piece of grass on fire with a lighter. He couldn't get it lit, but I remember feeling like I was doing a really horrible thing by sitting there with him trying to light it. Through peer-pressure I didn't stop him though. He sucked at using a lighter and I can remember that being part of my reasoning too.

Your cousin was able to use a lighter being only 3 years old?

No, he was trying to light with it but couldn't. That's why I wasn't really worried about him actually setting anything on fire.
