Forums - Gaming Discussion - Did you switched favorite gaming companies this gen?

Nintendo dropped off the face of the earth for me. Konami, Square Enix and Rockstar were probably my favorite devs last gen. This gen its Bioware, Sony, and Rockstar still remains.

Around the Network

Blizzard disappointed me this gen.

I didn't like some of the decisions they took in the last couple of years.

But they are still among my favorites companies.

I must say I have not.  Activision mainly because I loved Call of Duty Finest hour and Big Red One.  The Campaigns were awesome in those two. Ever since Finest Hour I have been playing Call of Duty.

Last gen I was a Nintendo Nerd. Super duper excited for the Wii and then poof it sucked. Got a 360 and really loved that all the way up until I got a PS3 slim and then I joined forces with Sony.

Handheld wise I was all about that DS until I managed to get a free damaged PSP. Within months I was in love and stopped touching the DS. I ended up getting a PSP 3000 towards the end of the generation and for a bit I started to transfer back over to Nintendo. I didn't buy any new DS games but I had fun playing ones I didn't originally finish. Up until launch of the 3DS I was super excited for it and planned a day one purchase. Then Sony announced the NGP and I fell in love!

My point is I could wake up next generation and love xbox the most.

Nintendo is still my favourite. There are things that Nintendo can do for me as a gamer that no other company can. I just wish they'd do it more often.

I have not really changed at all, but I have lost more interest then other generations.

I used to be an "only nintendo, get N, or get out," kind of guy. But after the Wii Failed to meet my needs (I'm needy) I started to branch out with the purchase of a PS3, and started getting into third party games. Nintendo is probably still my favorite, but Sony is a close second.

Honestly, Arkane studios (the creators of dishonored) are probably my favorite devs right now. Dishonored is my favorite game this gen, man it was fantastic.

I went from MS to Sony... then back to MS.

Not really. Got a Gamecube near launch and a PS2 later in the generation. Got a Wii near launch and a PS3 later in the generation. I played my PS3 more than my PS2 though. I only used my PS2 for the odd RPG. So no, not really. Still a Nintendo whore with a little Sony sucky-sucky on the side.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Ever since the NES, I was a hardcore Nintendo fan. I remained that way even a couple years after the Wii launch. But the limitations of motion controls really got under my skin. Along with Nintendo's insistence that every single 1st party game be Wiimote only. It was the first Nintendo console ever that I didn't enjoy playing a single one of the big first party games (actually there was one exception, Mario Kart was okay). It ended up a mini game and party game machine, and I drifted away. After playing the HD twins, I fell in love with their libraries of downloadable indie games. There were a few retail games I enjoyed as well, but it was the creative small development teams that defined this generation of gaming for me. As it stands I find myself moving further and further away from Nintendo. They are once again forcing gimmicky controls as every single 1st party game, and I touch controls bother me even more than motion. I don't see myself even trying Wii U until several years from now if I can purchase it for next to nothing (primarily for downloadable games).

Whichever company (or companies) go with a standard control scheme will win my favor. Simple as that. And I'll lean toward the console(s) with the strongest library of indie games.
