Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 dev kit news has surfaced!

Honestly I can't see how Sony can afford to launch a new console and operate at a loss for the next couple years again. This could be the end of the Playstation brand unless they come up with something totally revolutionary and not always rely on the horsepower, and graphics. Let's face it the Vita was a flop, and the PS3 has only recently started turning a slim profit for Sony and is still struggling in the North American market. Sony is headed for bankruptcy because they are losing ground in the TV business, cameras, music, phones, etc. The Playstation's glory days are over and people need to get real.

I don't care much for these rumors but there is a point where the news reporter says "this is to ensure that it can play games at 1080p and 60 fps in 3D"...

Sadly PS4 won't be able to do this as the 3D spec doesn't support 1080p anything over HDMI. 1080p @ 24fps for bluray is max it can do. Only connection allowing for 1080p 3D gaming is dual link DVI.

Also, even if magically they decided to include a Dual Link DVI port on some new TVs, there is no way in hell next gen will be able to do 1080p 3D @60 fps with an AMD APU. You'd need a latest Intel i5 and a GTX 680 to do that.

Otherwise, carry on with rumors...

Thats not a rumor. They are reporting on the second version of the dev kit and it leaked and the third version of the dev kit is set for Janurary.

Did we watch the same video? "Anonymous sources have told VG247..."

Doesn't sound like a confirmed intel to me. Im not saying it's all fake as it may be true, just not official info yet as long as it's anonymously being reported...

I can assure you that the 1080p 3D and 60 fps part is made up tho.

HUH? No, that should be standard, its not hard with todays cheap tech available. If the next consoles cannot even to that then LMAO.

And you're basing this standard on what exactly?

We're talking about Stereoscopic 3D not normal 2D images. For a game to run at 1080p 3D and 60 hz it needs to be able to run at 1080p at 120 frames per second. Go look up some PC benchmarks and see what CPU and video card you need to run something like Max Payne 3 and Skyrim at 120 fps.

I hope it's the most powerful of the three next gen consoles, but at the same time, easier to code for, so we don't see shoddy ports again, lol.

It will be fine. They wont make the same mistake twice. They know what they need to do now. We'll all find out soon.

Yeah that's what they said about the Vita too....

That quote is from a Sony statement about the dev kits when it leaked a little while ago. Anyway, it could mean 1080p at 60fps "and" 3D. Whether that means 1080p at 60fps during 3D, idk. Maybe they are shooting for that, but given certain limitations will only be acheived by people with the proper set up. It doesn't mean that it is what everyone will have, just a benchmark for what it can be capable of.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

What's that suppose to mean? Did they launch a handheld system that is selling at a loss and is hard to code for? Don't be that guy.

If the the latest dev kits aren't going out until Jan and won't be finalized until mid 2012, I don't think the games will be ready for a 2013 launch. The Nextbox rumors of dev kits have been going around for a long time so it's definitely launching in 2013, but if PS4 dev kits are this late it seems like a 2014 launch for Sony. Now if devs have ha early dev kits for as long as the Nextbox then they will launch together. Rumors are rumors though.

The latest batch of dev kits were reportedly sent in. Sony and Microsoft have been periodically been sending their dev kits to devs with updates. Activision has already stated  that one of the new consoles will be coming out next year. The 720 development date got pushed back, so this means it will be the PS4 that will be shown at E3 next year as far as intel is concerned.

What the hell are you babbling here? Read the HDM I 1.3 specs and then read HDMI 1.4 specs to fully wake up..

One of PSP's biggest flaws was it tried to mimic console gaming.  While this worked at first it eventually stagnated.  The Vita is doing the same thing with a high price point like the PS3's launch with no titles that appeals to a mass amount of people.  They learned nothing from the PSP or the PS3 launch looking at the Vita.  That is what that meant.

Sigh, cannot get past 1 page now without the SONY IS DOOMED police, its getting old. Can we just have 1 good thread about something?
