Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have Nintendo picked up any of the hardcore with the 3DS

i think the 3DS will move the core gamer, just like the DS
the problem is the WiiU, it doesnt have all the mature content that community usually eats, and the experience is too complex for the casual..........god knows i would love to see the WiiU explode, i have severe doubts about it ...

I hate to pull a President Clinton here, but it depends on what your definition of "hardcore" is. If it means a group of people who spend a lot of time and money playing video games, then yes. If it means people who prefer online multiplayer and games like Halo, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Madden, and Fifa, then probably no.

And if we go by the second definition, the 3DS will probably never win those people over. But another important question is this: in order to be successful, does it even need to?

There's that word again. And no suggestion as to what is meant by it. *sigh*

"Hardcore" gamer? haha , shut up. That thing does not exist, it´s justa mirror created by the gaming journalism.
In the Internet Nintendo is a sh*it, a thing for kids, Xbox360 and Ps3 rules, even the vita rules!!
But why does Nintendo leads in sales??
Because that bullsh*it of "hardcore gamers" and "Nintendo sucks", are just a few persons with personality problems who just repeat what the "journalism" say.

Amen

The only game that indicates such a shift is Monster Hunter 3G. Otherwise, just the same old Nintendo titles seem to be what people are buying the 3DS for. If I had to guess, the PSP hasn't really had much of a base outside of the Monster Hunter and non-game-buying crowd for years, so the Vita's low sales are only natural.

There always was a strong hardcore following on DS and it's no different with the 3ds. The only difference is that it will attract fewer casual gamers than the ds did which will likely result in more core games being built by Nintendo to increase game sale revenues to make up for the fact that it will sell fewer units as compared to the DS.

I think a better question would be if Sony has picked up any (self-entitled) hardcore gamers with the Vita.

They are the one's who want them.

Hardcore gamers own most/all of the systems anyway as a matter of course.

Tease.

I don't think you can say that people who exclusivly play Wii console gamers over PS360 are hardcore gamers. Wii is a great system, even for the hardcore, but there aren't enough games to sustain hardcore gamers entirely.

However I agree with everything else, I love my DS and my Wii, XenoBlade was one of the best JRPG's this gen, and Zelda is a gem on its own.

A quick look at the best selling games on 3ds tell you no. Its still the same usual suspects selling well on the system; Mario and co. At least in the west, sure they have RE, MGS, Tekken, etc. but that dont mean nothing when no one is actually BUYING the games. The only third party game that seems to be doing well is KH which isnt saying much because 365/2 and BBS both did good on DS and PSP

RE:Revelations hasn't even been out a holiday season so it should get a little bump this holiday season. I believe it is more an issue of install base than anything else. I wanted to just say that I believe they are doing it in Japan. MH going to the 3DS is one of the biggest games they could have secured for Japan. Just look at the weekly 3DS and Vita sales in Japan.

Vita - 5,319
3DS - 87,466

Japanese gamers have little reason to pick up the Vita considering MH4 is coming to the 3DS. This means the Vita will probably never achieve PSP sales while the 3DS will stay near DS sales.  If the Japanese have little faith in the Vita then that pretty much means game over for Sony.
