they just love to make things harder for themselves in the online department

How does this make things harder for them?

I cant wait until phone numbers get phased out in favour of alphanumerics!

They already are... its called your phone book or contact list. Any sensible person by now has their contacts saved to a phone that is linked to a cloud system like Google, Apple, or Live. Get a new device, just log in and contacts are there.

Do you seriously have your contacts saved as just numbers?

Yes, of course I have labels for my phone contacts, just like I have readable names for everyone on my Wii Friend list.

But that's not the point man, numbers are hard work. I heard terrible tales of people having to sleep rough, just because they can't even remember their house number.

Nintendo has done a really innovative thing here, now we can only hope that everybody else copies them.

It's so true, just like those pesky friend codes, phone numbers are as hard to remember. Thankfully these are being phased out with usernames for services like Skype, Viber or Whatsapp. All the cool kids use these now.

Good thing i'm a day-one buyer. I can lock down Mr Khan before any Star Trek folks or people of Turkic descent get their hands on it

Nintendo have stated multiple times they won't charge for their online service, excluding DLC's and that stuff of course.

Blimey, I just typed my username on google and it came up with a bunch of accounts that I don't even know about using my name! And here I thought mine was unique, oh well, I'm skrewed! -_-'
