Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Black Ops 2 Launch Guide (Wii U 720p 60fps, 360/ps3 SUB-HD)

Don't care about graphics but I like that they added support for Wiimotes. I'm a pessimist and really expected zero support for that control scheme for WiiU titles.

True hd my ass.

Well nintendo fans, is Wii U version the best console version?

Yes.

So it should sell a lot then, right? I think that best version should have the best sales, it is also a launch title which should get some additional sales due to lack of choices.

Starting from a userbase of zero and max of 4m by end of year? Don't be unrealistic. How many did X360 sell in xmas 2005 for similar multiplats?

CoD-brand has grown a lot since 2005. I did not mention by end of the year. End of next year would be a good measure.

COD is a front loaded game and doesn't have legs that make long term comparisons worth it.

Just look at X360, it took ~3yrs for it to become dominant in games over previous gen, specifically PS2. (maybe closer to 2yrs than 3...)

Your comparison is pretty much irrelevant, because you are comparing 360 to last gen market leader. We aren't looking at the sales of current gen leader, just second and third placed consoles. If you want, we can disregard the second best selling console and compare Wii U sales to the biggest loser, whichever  console it might be in 1.1.2014. If you want to compare, compare the sales of GC version to 360 version. 360 is likely the third place console this gen.

Or are you expecting Wii U to be the last next gen?

Anyway, total sales in one year and some extra is a good measure.

GC Cod 2005:

360 CoD 2005:

As we can see, 360 version sold 6 times as much as GC version. Maybe we should expect the same from Wii U?

I don't see how that comparison is possible. GC had a userbase of 1/4 of Wii and 1/3 of PS360 (individually).

I was comparing X360 (first out) to PS2 (leader of gen for core and overall). So here I'd compare WiiU to PS360 (individually as they are statistically equal). But even that is a tough comparison as WiiU has a stigma to overcome due to Nintendo's image/perception among the 18-25 male userbase.

Its going to take games like Bayonetta2 being made in a fashion that blows away current gen (thank fully it comes out before rest of next-gen) to make that group realize WiiU meets their worries head on and is a viable system. Next winter with rest of next-gen launching and WiiU's power really being shown off in comparison to this gen will be a true indicator if A) it will get proper 3rd party support and B) if some part of core gaming will jump on board or not.

Personally I'm only concerned with A.

Hey, I was being fair. You are the one who wanted to compare games to generation leader and I compared third place console to the most likely third place console. But don't worry, I will try a bit harder to please you.

Let's compare again:

PS2 CoD 2005:

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/4932/call-of-duty-2-big-red-one/

360 CoD 2005:

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/298/call-of-duty-2/

As we can clearly see, 360 sold 0.87m less than ps2 cod or 33% less than ps2 version. Going by your rules, Wii U version should do within 1 million of 360 version or with roughly 33% difference compared to 360 version. I can live with that comparison. With percentages and assuming CoD 360 will sell about 14m, Wii U version should do 9m. With actual sales numbers, Wii U version should do 13m.

Edited:

Got the percentages wrong.

The only thing I consider impressive with a modern COD game is.. that it's 60fps.. but truthfully.. it's visually almost a generation behind games like Killzone..

mM

This is good for nintendo, but will the public realise that the Wii U has the better console version?

I think all the disinformation spread in the internet will do its work here, wich is quite sad.

My only point was a new console takes significant time to match the sales of the generation before it. You can't expect any console to match immediately. I don't know why you're trying to force this WiiU to last gen comparison already. Hell, even multiplat games on X720 will sell less than X360/PS3 next holiday.

Furthermore, COD has changed tremendously over this gen. COD2 barely sold 6m total. The latest CODs do more than that on one console.

Wii's max COD sales ~2m... last one only ~500k. This one should do better, but with if it gets a max around 1.5m, I'd call that a success and good showing for a new console. Don't expect it to reach the ~2/3rds of what it does on PS360 individually. That's just nonsense. neXtBox/PS4 won't even do that at launch.

Very true. But unfortunately its the only thing we have to really compare at this moment. I keep saying we all need to wait for the launch to move on and devs to of had the dev kits for a bit longer. The next big push of multiplats, especially ones that use next-gen tech, will clearly show WiiU's differences.

So the WiiU one really is the superior version. Nintendo should have told gamers more about BO2 : CoD is the biggest franchise in the world, why is the WiiU one so discreet?

Personally don't think it would be convenient to play with the Gamepad (not sure about the pro controller either), but the WiiU BO2 would have needed a push if it is to push WiiU.
