I just realised that PS3 is closer to surpassing Wii in Europe than I thought, 5.8m away. According to my guesstimations that is about what PS3 sells in Europe in one year. Wii is close to irrelevancy now so I think it's quite likely that it'll be surpassed by PS3 eventually.

Then we have NA where it seems even clearer X360 will surpass Wii.

Wouldn't that be something? A no.1 console WW being outsold in most regions by some other console. It just so happens that Wii was the most consistent, against the wild variations between PS3 and X360 region to region.

This also seemed impossible three years ago. This gen has been like a rollercoaster compared to previous ones.

Looking likely but the holidays for the Wii and WiiU will of course slow the trend. This Gen has went this way because of the totally different markets each platforms caters to. Allowing them all to build a large base. The PS3 and 360 are doing well but this may come at the expense of PS4 and nextbox. Similar to the problems the Vita is having thanks to the continued support of PSP.

For single regions this might work and I am pretty sure there is some country out there where more people own a PS3 than a Wii etc

But globaly  this wont work.

Lets say Wii sales would stop right now. Then they would hover somewhere around 97 million. How should the 360 or Ps3 sell around 30 million when they managed to sell 60+ million in 6 years.

Im not sure how the first second third etc. weekly sales of the consoles looked like but I doubt they will manage to sell 30million units. I am pretty sure most people who want those consoles already have them and when the next gen consoles of Sony and MS will be announced Ps3 and 360 sales will drop alot.

And around 30million would only work if Wii sales would realls be 0 per week from now.

I am also pretty sure MS and Sony want most new gamers buy a Ps4 and Nextbox so the ads etc for the "old" consoles will also stop.

I think you are missing the point of this thread entirely.

He is saying that it's looking like Wii will win WORLDWIDE sales (i.e. your 97 million figure), but in a region-by-region breakdown, 360 will have sold the most consoles in the USA and PS3 will have sold the most consoles in Europe.  So Wii will be the overall victor without having full dominance in either the USA or Europe, which is something that's never really happened before (at least not for a few generations).

It's looking increasingly likely to happen, to be honest.

I'm talking regionally, not globally. I thought my OP, title and poll were all pretty clear about it.

Wii is only 5m above X360 in NA and 6m above PS3 in Europe.

The Xbox360 was out there a year before the Wii and PS360 will sure be 1-3 years longer on the market without a successor. Could happen that the Xbox360 outsell Wii in US and PS3 outsell Wii in EU. 

But only if PS4 and XBox8 arrive late in 2014. But even if this happen it is unlikely. The Wii sales had a slowdown after Wii U was announced. If PS4 & Xbox8 gets announced the sales of it PS360 will slow down too.

I think the PS360 will already slow down this christmas, because of Wii U. And the Wii sales will rise again a little bit this Christmas, like every christmas.

So it is very unlikely that Wii get outsold in US or EU.

Think it over. The audience that is still interested in the old Wii is surely not interested in PS360. But the audience interested in Wii U has much in common with potential PS360 buyers.

Xbox8? Could u explain where the 8 comes from? Either it's a mistake or I'm stupid!

I don't think of first adopters of PS360, but people who are interested to buy a new console, some of these will buy a Wii U instead of PS360. So the PS360 sales this christmas will surely much lower as they would be without Wii U.

And even some of the first adopters of PS360 will likely think about buying Wii U, because this are gamers who like to buy a new hardware. Sure some of them are "fanboys" who only buy MS consoles or Sony consoles, but this is a small minority.

There are some rumors month ago that the new Xbox will named XBox8, sounds better to me than "nextbox" or "Xbox720".
