Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U: 7 Reasons It’s Already Won The Next-Gen Battle ( how does this A**hole know? Is he a Psychic?)

Launching earlier, having a mass market price, and being the successor to a market leading console has tended to be a insanely successful strategy before

It won because

1. Probably the cheapest of the 3
2. head start

That really it.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Obviously written by a fanboy but Nintendo will 'win' the next generation because of three things (not seven lol):

1) They're launching the console a year ahead of the PS4 and 720. I'm personally expecting the U to have an installed userbase between 10 and 15m by the time the PS4 and 720 launch.

2) ZombiU, Rayman Legends, Assassin's Creed 3 and Aliens Colonial Marines will all sell over 1m units. Mass Effect 3 and Batman Arkham City won't, showing publishers that titles aimed at the 'hardcore' demographic will sell as long as they're of decent quality, are marketed properly and aren't games released a year after their last gen counterparts.

3) Thanks to Nintendo's forward thinking with the U's hardware all 3 consoles next gen will have a similar architecture and developers won't have any problems having the U supply up-ports to the PS4/720 or receive down-ports from the PS4/720. And due to number 1 above you'll see third party publishers bringing more exclusives to the U platform.

That's my take on it anyway.

I see Nintendo in a strong position myself. In Japan they should easily dominate the market with DQ and MH already on board together with their own killer franchises and with a year head start at a good price point - that's a situation Sony can't really hope to recover from (and MS naturally has no chances anyway).

With that as their backbone and ofcourse the mass appeal of their own world wide franchises Nintendo sits in a very comfortable spot.
In NA Nintendo should be able to take on MS pretty well (and might finally get GTA or Elder Scrolls or some other big western franchises as a result), while I see europe+rest as not too decided - Sony could come out at top here, but if so then probably only by a small margin.

They forgot to mention that it's easy to develop for it and it will be probably the cheapest to develop for, besides, Nintendo could take more risks in case something doesn't work appropriately cause they are not in a bad position in business, but the most important part is that they have the best selling franchises ever and that already gives them advantage!

Awesome Arkham City picture.

I actually don´t see Nintendo as sompetition to Sony and Microsoft anymore. Nintendo is standalone. I mean when Sony and Microsoft release their products they will be much more powerfull and most gamers who have a Wii U will buy one of those two as well. Thats at least what I think. And it was the same thing with the Wii.

i dont think sony have the financial power to launch a 599.99$ us dollars console again (it  is goig to be a real play station, you know something for mass market), and microsoft maybe they can; but is obvius they are focusing on kinect 2.0 and that along would take at least 50% of resources from the xbox 720, and probably when they release it (xbox720), the main platform for the thirds is going to be wii U so the ps4 and xbox 720 will be the ports consoles just like ps3 is rigth now with the 360. (ps3 is in theory more powerfull but the main platform  for thirds is the 360 so ps3 got a lot of ports, in consequence they look the same in both platforms).

34 years playing games.

This is a ridiculous article, we haven't seen anything from the other 2 competitors and yet you are saying that the wiiu has won? Compared to the PS3 and Xb360 the Wiiu does look enticing but it's going to be a different story once sony and ms show their consoles at e3 2013.

I disagree with this article for the most part:

7. The market that pushed the wii sales so high now mostly plays on tablets and smartphones, furthermore the wiiu gamepad doesn't have the wow factor that the introduction of motion controls had with the wii.

6. I can agree with this

5. This will help initial sales, but is not nearly enough to win a generation. Sony and MS next gen systems will likely also launch at christmas, and when they actually show a big step in graphics the hype will be a lot more.

4. I would hardly call it a revolutionary gaming experience, nothing the gamepad has shown is really that impressive or beneficial to games and having to look down at your controller every time you want to manage your items is just a hassle and breaks immersion.

3. Currently the third party support is limited to a couple of ports, whether or not third parties stay for the long term remains to be seen, if the next consoles take a large enough technological leap we could see another wii situation with major third party developers leaving the wiiu alone.

2. It does offer a unique online experience that is true, but the quality of the network is unlikely to be close to XBL or PSN which have both had many years to improve.

1. That's all a matter of opinion of course, Nintendo first party games do sell very well though and that's something that will definitely help the sales of the system.

That means everyone else is doomed!

Why is it the cheapest and easiest to develop for?  Sources appreciated.
