If enough hype builds for the game, I would say about 10m seems right to me. Otherwise, it's probably 9m.

10 million is 100% guaranteed.

Anything over that is gravy

I don't think it will pass 10million. Being this late in the generation and the competition halo now has from call of duty I think it will do around 9million, which is still great.

it would have sold over 10 million but it wont because of.. call of duty. halo 3 released 2 months before call of duty 4.  halo was the don at the time, had mega hype and xbox 360 was way cooler than the ps3 at the time. things have changed alot. i just cant see halo 4 selling more than halo 3.

I wager twelve million in sales is actually the safe bet. This game appear to be more then a new installment. It looks like a huge overhaul of the franchise. Microsoft has fashioned a real beast of a game with this one, and I think it has the scope to eclipse Call of Duty, and easily surpass its sales. What we have seen already is pretty intense with the whole Spartan Ops mission system. If the rest is as well thought out, or as innovative on the whole. Then this game has every chance to be the trend setter, and a real stand alone title. That could really move some insanely serious units.

Halo 4 will get to 8 million no matter what.  Halo Reach (although not a proper sequel) is around 9 million.  I do think the game has to be great to get past 10 million.  It's a different game maker, so it could go either way with the quality of the game.  Going back and playing Halo 3 and Halo Reach (although a little different), I don't think the multiplayer is as good as either Battlefield and (gasp) COD.  Not sure if the multiplayer will have longevity as other FPSs.

Before I make a full prediction, I have a question first that I'm sure someone will be able to answer...

How many 360s were on the market in September of 2007, when Halo 3 released? H3 released to 3.8m first week at that time and I'm curious as to how many consoles were on the market at that point.

10 mil at absolute max, and that's if they repackage it as some kind of super special edition when the NextBox hits since Halo 5 isn't coming out till holiday '14 at the earliest, probably sometime in '15 realistically.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I can see this going 12m+. I could even see it passing Halo 3. Halo 3 released to a small Xbox 360 base and had a lot of competition from other software. If Halo 4 has a huge marketing campaign like Halo 3 I think it can surpass it. Halo 4 is releasing when their is barely any other Xbox 360 exclusives releasing so it will be the game to get.
