Forums - Sales Discussion - Dragon Quest X Preorders Top DQ Collection Preorders 9 Days out from Launch

So as of July 25th it looks like DQX has 155,000 preorders in Japan, last year Dragon Quest Collection only got to 140,000 preorders, and then it sold about 290,000 units week one.

I reckon DQX will get to about 200,000 preorders. Typically games double their preorder level on Wii, but sometimes it's more like x1.5 or x1.75, either way, it looks like DQX is a pretty safe bet for a 300,000 - 400,000 opening in Japan, and it should hold at a fairly high level with Obon coming mid-month. Given Kirby pushed some hardware this week, and Just Dance will push some hw next week, I reckon we're going to see at least four weeks in Japan where Wii is above 10,000 again as DQ / Mario Party / Just Dance / Kirby will each sell fairly well into late August.

I'm willing to say with a fair amount of certainty too, that DQX week is probably the last non-Dec/Jan week that Wii will top 25,000 in Japan (I'm expecting about 12,000 for JD week, and 28,000 for DQX week one, )

Don't do this! This makes me miss the Japan Preview, :(.
Anyway, that seems fantastic considering that the holidays will give DQ short-term legs (could it make a million!?), that it's a damned MMORPG that you'd think would bomb absolutely and that it's gonna be released on WiiU as well.

Like I said in the other thread

Final Fantasy XI opened with 63k and turned out to be the most profitable FF ever.
This game is already a success.

That happened because people kept their subscriptions. It's not a success until we know that will happen with this game as well

Yeah, I agree. But DQ fans are hardcore (it's like the only JRPG with legs - says a lot about the used market), so there's no reason to think they won't keep the subscriptions - especially when the game looks high quality. Plus all the merchandise and microtransactions.

And a second launch with Wii U too, that shall be as big or bigger than this one. The only drawback (and a big one too) is that in the west DQ is not going to be as popular as FF. But I think japan will compensate for this alone.

Bring back the Japan Preview!

I may be crazy, but I've said it once, I'll say it again.

DQX will get way above 500k first week. If not, I can pull damage control and add Wii U FW sales later! :)

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I think DQ X being the last major Wii release will keep it high in the charts for a year or 2.

This should help with the longevity of the game

Square Enix to introduce Dragon Quest X updates every ten weeks, weekly quests
July 26th, 2012 Posted in News, Posted by Valay, Wii, Wii U

Square Enix intends to update Dragon Quest X on a regular basis. Earlier today, producer Yosuke Saito tweeted that major updates will be introduced once every ten weeks.

What can players expect with these updates? While nothing has been confirmed specifically, Dragon Quest X will receive new gameplay systems and play elements with each new release.

On top of the updates, Square Enix will prepare weekly quests downloads that contain story elements.

So this DQ X game will come out on Wii, then a few months later on Wii U or is there going to be a longer gap until the Wii U release?

Would people upgrade from Wii to Wii U version? I am a little confused by this...

Also, is the game a retail price release + subscription + microtransactions price? That sounds very expensive for any game
