Sony has finally unveiled its Smash Bros themed game that has been rumored for months. The game is now calledPlayStation Battle All-Stars Royale. This new title is completely unnecessary, and Sony should have not put the game into production. While the game might turn out to be fun, the consumers of Baltimore should question Sony as to why it is blatantly ripping off Nintendo.
PlayStation Battle All-Stars Royal is nothing more than a cash grab at the casual market. Sony does not need a game like this. A lot of franchises associated with the PlayStation platform never made it to the big leagues. Parappa the Rapper is just one title that did not become a staple franchise. The casual crowd is not going to pick up Sony’sSmash Bros clone to play as Parappa. Sweet Tooth might have been popular back in the PS1 days, but he is no longer well known by today’s mainstream crowd. It is also doubtful that most people recognize where Fat Princess comes from. Since the majority of consumers have no idea who Sony’s characters are, then this game will probably fall flat when it releases.
Sony needs to stick to the foundation of what made PlayStation great in the first place. The PlayStation brand has never been about parties or local multiplayer. All of the biggest games on the platform have always focused on singleplayer gameplay. Games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot,Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Jak and Daxter, God of War,Uncharted, and Infamous are all games that were built to be played by one person. Sony already tried to hit the casual crowd with the PlayStation Move, and the peripheral ended up being a moderate success. The company does not need to lose anymore money trying to woo people outside of its core users.
Sony seems to be losing its direction with the PS3. It first produces the game Little Big Planet Karting which will destroyModnation Racers property. now the company will fall deeper into the financial hole from creating PlayStation Battle All-Stars. Sony is in the middle of an identity crisis and needs to find itself again.

So much ignorance wrong with that article. I'll just copy and paste a comment someone made on the comments.
1. This game isn't aimed at the casual market. It is made for the Playstation community who has been asking for this game FOR YEARS.
2. No, many characters in the game might not be recognizable to the casual player. THAT IS EXACTLY WHY THIS GAME IS BEING MADE. To bring awareness to these great characters. You can't tell me you knew all the characters in Smash Bros. Characters like Fox, Falco, Mr. Game and Watch, Captain Falcon, Ike, Ice Climbers and Lucas....etc. Many people only got introduced to these characters because of Smash Bros. Many of the characters in Smash Bros like those I listed never made it into the "big leagues" either.
3. Playstation 3 is known for a variety of games. Playstation All-Stars is filling one of the few gaps in the PS3s games library.

@ bolded..not half wrong actually

Theat couldn't be farther from the truth. Sony knows exactly what PS3 owners want. All-Stars is made specifically for these die-hard Playstation fans.
The Last of Us is a new IP directed at the core gamer. God of War Ascention is as well. LittleBigPlanet Karting is made for the more casual player and obviously meant to attract kids as well.
Whoever wrote that article seems mad that Sony is making games that aren't super gory and have super duper graphics.
There are plenty of PS3 owners who miss the Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games from the PS1 era. The Playsation fanbase is the most diverse out of the Big 3.

...well, I don't play PS3 so I don't know if this article is a joke or an angry letter. I think it's a little bit of both...

Yup. Even if 1/4 of God of War fans buy the game, and 1/4 of Uncharted fans buy the game, that's already ~2million+ sales :D

If Superbot don't screw around (and it seems they are not) this game could sell a lot, all my friends are on board to buy it day one so we can all play online and the DLC will probably be a succes too. I won't mind paying 3 bucks for Tomba.
