Forums - PC Discussion - Reset – Debut Trailer - Amazing - Trailer focused on gameplay "soon"

I dont like how they market this game. Don't show me a meaningless cut-scene or intro video, show me something from the game. Come back when you actually can present your game.

Maybe you are forced to do it this way if youre an indie developer but I don't like it. And these guys haven't even started programming the gameplay mechanics ("The next stage is that we'll be working on the gameplay elements").

The game itself might become good but we just don't know yet.

Sounds interesting. Will try.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

But that is how all games are advertised... And I don't remember you bitching about Skyrim being announced with a CGI trailer of a wall

"I nearly cried when I saw the trailer. I've never been more excited about an upcoming game.

I just saw the trailer and my hands are shaking lol."

Except that big publishers use CGI or live action to tease games instead of an ingame trailer that shows off the mood and asthetic of the game. They have only been working on it for 11 months, most games wouldn't even be announced this early. A gameplay trailer is comming tho.

Nice trailer. I like the theme, the music and the visuals.

As a forester the tree growth looks absolutely ridiculous though.

Yea the devs said foliage is WIP, the geme is still pre-alpha and it's the work of 2 guys so a lot of things are not final at the moment, even in the trailer.

One of the devs has replied to a bunch of comments on the blog post http://reset-game.net/?p=142 as a_Oksaharju

Some details like user generated content tools, DX10 bassed engine (may use DX11 eventually)

and on the topic of the trees

Fantastic job – inspirational.

I know it was just the first trailer and you’re still in pre-alpha, but maybe you can have the vegetation actually germinate? Instead of scaling up tree meshes and grass textures, maybe have the greenery grow more as they would in real life? Very hard thing to do technically of course, but if you nail it, it’d be an absolute masterpiece. Still looks great of course as is, but pushing that envelope will definitely be profound.

  • Thanks, good feedback, vegetation is important in the gameworld and it is still worked on.

Nice. Yeah I was momentarily puzzled as to why the trees were growing like they were, then it hit me just how difficult it would be to accurately design a system like that. I remember the original Fable planned to include some sort of vegetation growth system like this, but I think Lionhead quickly found it was either too much work or not possible on the hardware.

Also it isn't really germination that's the issue as that blog poster mentions, because of the speed lapse you wouldn't even notice germination. It's the expansion of the crown, branches and foliage that looks off as it is as he mentions just 'scaling up'.

Facinating that a team of two could produce something like this. Please keep us posted with further info zarx! :)

Well FarCry 2 did have a interesting foliage regrowth system
